JuniperChills DYK work

edit

Hi theleekycauldron, what do you think of my DYK nominations and reviews located at User:JuniperChill/DYK work. As I only have 1000 edits and started editing on Dec 2023, this may be fun to see. I also note that you introduced me to DYK after reading your RfA (also stated at my DYK page). My DYK work is definitely interesting for a few reasons I can think of at that page. JuniperChill (talk) 12:29, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, JuniperChill! My apologies for leaving you hanging. I've had some time to take a look through your reviews – here's what I would tell you if I were acting as a DYK promoter:
  • Azahriah – well handled :)
  • Eve (Stellar Blade) – I would challenge your assessment of the interestingness of the provided hooks. Are these hooks really "likely to be perceived as unusual or intriguing by readers with no special knowledge or interest", and if so, why?
  • Music Sounds Better with You – Looks like you expressed some doubt about ALT0, but I'm not sure if you caught the fact that an interview subject is not a reliable source for other people. Both of the sources cited on ALT1 seem to attribute to other sources – I wrote an essay on attribution at DYK, but I would argue this is a straightforward policy question. I would have challenged you both to track down the original reporting and cite that instead.
  • Interstate 85 in North Carolina – seems to have caught a fair amount of flak at WT:DYK, which I hope you've been following and learning from.
  • Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail – it's a matter of dispute as to whether WP:DYKFICTION applies to video games, so I wouldn't fault you for not automatically jumping there, but you probably should be aware of it as it relates to ALTs 1 and 2. As for ALT0a, I probably would've asked for some more copyediting, and I'm overall not wild about the quality of the sourcing but wouldn't hold that against anyone.
Overall, I'd say that you're doing a good job! This is probably a harsher review than most experienced promoters get, particularly where interestingness is concerned. I would encourage you to get more involved in DYK, pick it up as you go along, keep up with what's going on at WT:DYK and see what you can take away from it. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out (I'll do my best to give a more timely response!). theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 08:34, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I never thought I would be reviewing and later promoting DYKs. I didn't plan that from when I nominated my first two DYKs. I really think my first ever DYK review was the best one yet because its the only one where I had to decline it and put a lot of comments. Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly was my first successful article and my first DYK of an article that I made. Since I am not that experienced, I think my DYK stuff is one of the best for a newcomer.
The I85 talk was because of the fact that it reached GA but its currently under a reassessment because of reference issues. I never thought someone would promote it to GA only to go under reassessment after DYK was approved then pulled. A similar thing happened to cozy game (DYK nom) where it was deferred due to the close paraphrasing issue but was later fixed by someone who wasn't me (nom) or Andrzejbanas (creator) and got there in the end. That meant that my luck was high to have 2 DYKs exactly one month apart (22 April and 22 May respectively). I used to close RMs but have mostly moved onto DYK. I have started promoting some hooks so now I feel like being part of the DYK team. JuniperChill (talk) 18:37, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Actually, since people outside video gaming may not understand this hook below, is this alright which I also put on my DYK work page? Or would I have to change it?
I really love this farm sim similar to Coral Island and My Time at Sandrock and have over 200 hours on it. JuniperChill (talk) 21:01, 6 July 2024 (UTC) JuniperChill (talk) 21:01, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry if that compliment came out wrong. I respect and like Tamzin and I was wowed that she closed that ADL discussion so well. I am also really sorry that you and I have friction lately. Being at ANI is probably similar to standing for RFA, only much much worse. And I took a break from all day defense mode so to compliment Tamzin. I just added a new comment maybe clearer, and I hope that we can start over someday. I wish I could restart my whole experience on Wikipedia. Lightburst (talk) 06:02, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
