Kuluin is a suburb of Maroochydore in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2021 census, Kuluin had a population of 2,700 people.[1]

History

The locality takes its name from an Aboriginal word in the Kabi language meaning black swan.[2]

Kuluin State School opened in 1987.[3]

Kuluin was originally joined with the nearby towns of Maroochydore and Buderim. It became a separate suburb in 1991.[citation needed]

Demographics

In the 2016 census, Kuluin had a population of 2,363 people.[4]

In the 2021 census, Kuluin had a population of 2,700 people.[1]

Education

Kuluin State School is a government primary (Prep-6) school for boys and girls at Tallow Wood Drive (26°39′35″S 153°03′28″E / 26.6598°S 153.0579°E / -26.6598; 153.0579 (Kuluin State School)).[5][6] In 2017, the school had an enrolment of 622 students with 47 teachers (41 full-time equivalent) and 21 non-teaching staff (16 full-time equivalent).[7] In 2018, the school had an enrolment of 596 students with 46 teachers (38 full-time equivalent) and 20 non-teaching staff (15 full-time equivalent).[8] The school includes a special education program.[5]

There are no secondary schools in Kuluin. The nearest government secondary school is Maroochydore State High School in neighbouring Maroochydore to the east.[9]
