Phil Brickell (born 1986 or 1987) is a British Labour Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton West since 2024.[1]

Brickell is also still standing as a councillor on Manchester City Council for Baguley ward. Once elected as a Baguley councillor Brickell decided after just 3 weeks to disown the ward to focus on being a Bolton MP. However this didn't stop him from claiming over £17.5k in expenses for the year.[2] [3]

Early life and education

[edit]

Brickell was born in 1986 or 1987 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England.[4] He was educated at Bolton School, an independent school in Bolton, having received a "subsidised place".[5] He then read Law at Durham University.[4] While at university, he spent a year abroad at the University of Hanover.[5]

Early career

[edit]

Following university, Brickell was employed in the medical records department at the Royal Bolton Hospital. From 2009 onwards he worked in the financial services industry, most recently with NatWest Group.[4]

Political career

[edit]

Since 2023, Brickell has been a Labour and Co-operative councillor representing Baguley Ward on Manchester City Council.[3]

In the 2024 General Election, Brickell was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton West with 17,363 votes (38.9%) and a majority of 4,945 over the second place Conservative candidate.[6]
