Regional Computer Centre Institute of Information Technology (RCCIIT), is an engineering college of eastern India located in Beliaghata region of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It ranks as one of the top engineering colleges in the state of West Bengal[1]. The college was established in 1999. It is a governemnt aided institution aided by Government of West Bengal and is academically affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology.

The institute offers Bachelors and Masters degrees in various Engineering streams as well as Masters in computer application. Students are admitted through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE), AIEEE and GATE.

History

[edit]

The RCC Institute of Information Technology (RCCIIT) was set up in 1999 by the Regional Computer Center, Calcutta, located at Jadavpur University with support from the National Informatics Center (NIC), Government of India and Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal under affiliation of the University of Kalyani.

The institute started with only three streams viz. Bachelors in Computer Science and Information Technology and Masters in Computer Application. In 2006 a new stream was added to the Bachelors degree - Electronics and Communication. From 2010 many new streams and Masters degree in different Engineering courses were added.

The institute is currently headed by Prof (Dr) Partha Bose as the principal and Dr Sparshamoni Chatterjee (Ex Vc BESU Shibpur) who has been given the responsibility of chairing the RCCIIT society by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.

The Institute

[edit]

The institute is under the RCC Institute of Technology, an autonomous Society of Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, with part funding from the Government of West Bengal. This gives the institution a freedom normally associated with a private institution, while being funded by the Government. It has been selected for a TEQIP grant in the govt/govt aided category by the World Bank[2]

Its low fees (including both full and half fee waiver for students having low parental income annually) are made possible by the Government's funding.

Location

[edit]

This is an autonomous society run by the state government of West Bengal.
