Abbazia di Marmoutier
L' Abbazia di Marmoutier è un antico monastero posto fuori la città di Tours, Indre-et-Loire, Francia. Anticamante seguiva lìordine benedettino ed aveva numerose dipendenze.
L'abbazia venne fondata da San Martino di Tours (316-397) nel 372 circa, dopo che divenne Vescovo di Tours nel 371. Esso deriva il suo nome dal latino Majus Monasterium (Marmoutier), e si trova sulla sponda opposta della Loira rispetto a Tours.
Nell'852 venne saccheggiata dal vichingo Hasting.[1].
L'abbazia venne soppressa nel 1799 durante la rivoluzione francese, ed alcune parti della sua struttura vennero demolite. Attualmente la struttura contiene una scuola privata.
