Mayur @ sa.wikipedia.org

Hi i am a bureacrat on hindi wikipedia and also working with sanskrit wikipedia. But it is very difiicult to contribute there without transliteration tool and some other gadgets.I have already done it for hi wikipedia, but donot have sysop access on sa wikipedia.I requested there about one month ago but here are no active users, admins(not active for last 135 days) and bureaucrat(not active for last 70 days). So i am requesting here.Thank you--Mayur(TalkEmail)  04:29, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Comment Comment Mayur, as I heard, Shiju and Junaid are working on the translit tools for sa wiki. I would rather wait for that than duplicating the work. --Jyothis 21:24, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Comment Comment Ok, i am taking back my proposal, i was appllied for it one month back when this wiki got vector format. and how do you think i will make duplicate work, i have made transliteration tool for sanskrit seperately one month ago.there is very less difference between hindi devnagri and sanskrit devnagri script. But i also think that junaid work will be up to the mark so i have no interest left for adminship of sa wiki. However i didnot applied for installation of tool only, i wanted to work with that wiki and improve it quality but as far as i observe now its malyalam wikipedian who have taken the whole responsibility for indian languagges growth, So it will be better for me to work with my home project or if they want to reinstall transliteration tool in hi wiki i can left my crat and admin flag there.Thank you very much for your humble response--Mayur(TalkEmail)

If I can be a pest, Mayur, I'd like to note that Jyothis has started an RFC at Requests for comment/Indic Sysop which may be of interest to you. Kylu 01:10, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

Alison@gvwikipedia

Hi Stewards. I'm just requesting temporary sysop and bureaucrat permission for the Manx Wikipedia. The one permanent sysop (no local 'crats present) has requested I do some vital maintenance to MediaWiki space (mostly css/js, some mainpage), as well as kick the project over to the v2 Wikipedia logo. I also need to set bot bits for the local interwiki bots as they're currently completely overrunning RecentChanges. I have formally requested and was granted assent from the one and only sysop over there (the hard-working w:gv:User:MacTire02 :) ) I just need access for one or two days, is all. I've had it temporarily there a few times before, and I'm a sysop and bureaucrat on the Irish Language Wikipedia. Thanks, guys / maith agaibh - Alison 18:50, 3 January 2011 (UTC) * Done. Alison is trusted more than enough for her not to abuse temporary 'crat privileges. I'll set the reminder for a week; if you finish earlier, please let us know. Also, it may pay to get those privileges permanently if the project has a large enough userbase. -- Avi 19:02, 3 January 2011 (UTC) Handled by other stewards. -- Avi 19:11, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

    • Thanks, Avi - you're awesome :) There's only one sysop on there and activity is very low. I can read the language (sorta) but can't write it. I don't know if I could get !votes for permanent ops over there. 'crat is definitely out & there's really only the need for temporary quick-hop-in-and-done stuff. Thanks, tho' :) - Alison 19:06, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
      • Oops! I was briefly crat'd for 5 mins but lost it again. Could that possibly be reinstated, please? Have bot and rename backlog to sort. Thanks again! - Alison 19:13, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Fixed Wutsje fixed it. that happened due to an edit conflict. --Jyothis 19:18, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

  • all finished and sorted over there now, guys :) The local sysop is delighted with the updates, so feel free to remove my privs any time. Thanks again, stewards! :) - Alison 01:01, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

SB_Johnny@enwikiversity

Requesting an emergency desysopping because he gave administrator rights to an individual without community consensus. Abd's first mentorship ended without a recommendation. As such, he is not qualified to have anothe mentorship period as only those who have failed a vote or did not complete their mentorship period are allowed to do such. Abd reapplied anyway. Community consensus was against allowing him another mentorship. SB Johnny granted ops anyway. This is an extreme abuse of Bureaucrat ops and an emergency desysop is necessary. --Ottava Rima (talk) 22:55, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

If anyone has concerns about this, please bring it to my talk page on en.wv rather than elsewhere. My pressing of the button in question was very much according to local policy. Ottava's objection was noted locally as well. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 23:06, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
It is not in WMF policy for Crats to give adminship against Community Consensus. Ottava Rima (talk) 23:10, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Not done Please have a local discussion about the situation first as a community and develop a local consensus for removal of sysop/bureaucrat rights: Regardless of if the matter is against policy or not, it's not an emergency: There are no wiki pages or people being actively damaged by his having the rights at the moment. Kylu 23:52, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Emergency desysops have been processed before without consensus, especially in small communities where the consensus has been ignored. And there are many people who are actively in danger because of the action. This showed major concerns about Abd's history of revenge and attacks. Ottava Rima (talk) 00:08, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Get a grip. SRSLY. en:wv isn't a small wiki, and his actions were within policy. Even if they weren't, stewards don't decide, they act on consensus. Go get consensus. Or just go. Whichever. ++Lar: t/c 01:00, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Not a small wiki? We had half of our admin go inactive for many years and we currently have only 4 active admin, with only 14 active in any definition going back 3 months. By definition, that is a small wiki and would have to opt-out according to global sysop policy. And emergency desysops have happened without need for consensus. Only fully desysops happen without consensus. After all, stewards can grant temporary sysop without consensus, negating your whole premise. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:02, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
I think that you are missing the point... you are the only person here that is seeing this as an emergency. Even looking on Wikiversity, you seem to be the only person that considers this an issue. As such, consensus is required before any removal of rights will happen. Ajraddatz (Talk) 01:21, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
If you looked at Wikiversity, you would have seen that the community opposed Abd in the discussion. Consensus cannot happen on tiny Wikis with few active participants. Our main discussion forum only had a dozen different participants dating back a month. Crat Jtneill admits the community had concerns over Abd: "I am concerned, however, by the community concern above." This was completely disregarded and supplanted. Effectively, 25% of the community is 3 crats that have ignored community consensus. That is a severe imbalance and leads to opping people without consensus. That is not acceptable practice. If necessary, I will call a Meta RFC to have the whole leadership wiped from Wikiversity and the system started over because of their ignoring the community and granting sysops without consensus. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:31, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Starting a "Meta RFC" (whatever that is) would probably be better than your current approach, at least in the sense of getting it over with. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 02:15, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
I could just point out that you were given back your Cratship and Adminship at Wikiversity without community consensus nor a process to allow automatic re-opping. That would mean that you do not rightfully have the ops and can be immediately removed as such. Ottava Rima (talk) 02:34, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Hiya, take the conversation to Requests for comment please, rather than debate here. Thanks. Kylu 05:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Abd@enwikiversity

A [53] community vote has determined that he is to be removed. User is a temporary Custodian appointed against community consensus. After a period of abusing ops and bullying, he was put up to be desysopped. His mentor has not responded to any of the concerns from the community so the community deemed it necessary to intervene. 7 blatant supports to desysop (6 in main section, 1 in bottom section - Bduke), 1 says the original giving of ops was "strange", and no opposition. Discussion posted in many places, multiple people were asked to comment, but the low activity of the community makes it certain that all who would respond have responded. Ottava Rima (talk) 00:01, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

please wait at least 2 weeks for a complete community response. Thank you.--Nick1915 - all you want 16:07, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, Nick1915. Wikiversity has policy on this, see Problems with Custodians; the process requires a 'crat close and request here. There are active 'crats, Jtneill and SB Johnny, both of whom have my permission to request desysop immediately if they think it necessary. The process is not broken. --Abd 16:32, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
thank you Abd, so this request is closed due to local policy. Thanks--Nick1915 - all you want 17:05, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
That policy is for full Custodians, not temporary Custodians. This shows that Stewards were willing to desysop after 3 days when the whole process was called into question via unanimous vote. Putting up a double standard is not the place of Stewards, especially when it is unanimous among a community. Seeing as how confirmation is around the corner, this is an egregious abuse of authority Nick1915, especially when Drini made it clear that filing on Friday was enough time to pass. Ottava Rima (talk) 21:43, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
There is no double-standard. The previous request you point to was filed by a local bureaucrat, as described by the local policy. If you feel that local community policy or bureaucrats are unfair, you should attempt to resolve those issues locally. —Pathoschild 22:49:06, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
No. Reread. The procedure says: 1. "you must gain consensus on the local wiki first." which was not followed for the previous one and 2. "a trusted person" not a "Bureaucrat". If you are wanting to continue as a Steward you must follow Steward procedures instead of making up your own. Ottava Rima (talk) 22:51, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
The en-Wikiversity de-custodianship policy states as follows: "Loss of custodianship involves a process that establishes community consensus. [...] Wikiversity bureaucrats will review the discussion. If a bureaucrat decides that there is good reason for removal of a custodianship, that bureaucrat will go to the meta-wiki and request that stewards review the community discussion. If a steward agrees that the Wikiversity community has reached consensus about a problem custodian, then that steward can terminate the custodianship of the custodian."
This policy explicitly places responsibility for such decisions in the hands of the local community bureaucrats. Please ask the local bureaucrats to review the discussion, as required by the policy. If you feel this is unfair or insufficient, you may propose changes to the policy. —Pathoschild 23:27:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
He is not a Custodian. He is a Probationary custodian. That was explained multiple times above. He was not voted in by the community, which that recall proceedings assume. Furthermore, as multiple Stewards have pointed out, stewards cannot "agree that the Wikiversity community has reached consensus". They can only see if someone trusted from the community posts that there is consensus, which the unanimous decision so far shows. Ottava Rima (talk) 23:38, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I've closed this request following the local policy literally, not misusing any position/power.This is the only policy about custodian I've seen, and it's pretty clear, so, in the first instance, I cannot decide if community consensus is reached or not, but a local 'crat should review and make a request here. Ottava Rima, as I see, is not a local 'crat and the voting/discussion is open from less than a week and it has not been checked by any 'crat. So, yes, in this case I can point out that this request is not valid--Nick1915 - all you want 11:47, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
This is factually incorrect: "the local policy literally" He is a probationary custodian, not a Custodian. He has his own separate page. Furthermore, Meta policy does not require a local crat. Drini and othes in chat said to file it on Friday. Are you really going to contradict other Stewards while showing your inability to read the appropriate policy, ignore unanimous consensus, and do something Stewards are not allowed to do by making false claims about policies? Ottava Rima (talk) 14:28, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Any other steward can revert my "inappropriate" action whenever. Anyway your tone is offensive here and in my talkpage. Please remember that meta is not the right place for exporting local drama or for threating people. This request is already closed, unless a wikiversity 'crat asks a removing or another steward wants to do something else. If you consider my action dishonest, please open a request here. Thanks--Nick1915 - all you want 15:49, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
A couple of users have asked for further input on the conflict on Wikiversity. From the stewards' point of view (as I see it), this is an internal conflict that should be handled by the community if at all possible. There is majority but no consensus about desysoping Abd, and the discussion is ongoing. The local proposal needs to be closed one way or another before we implement it. We will not close the proposal for you, since that's up to the community.
In typical cases a bureaucrat closes the proposal and forwards the decision to the stewards for implementation. That does not seem to be happening this time. The problem here is not that stewards are unwilling to arbitrate the conflict, but that there appears to be no local mechanism to do so. If nobody but stewards can resolve local disagreements, there are implications beyond this particular desysop request. Whether this case is decided by a bureaucrat or through another local decision-making process, you may want to think about how future disagreements will be resolved. —Pathoschild 02:40:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Just for the sake of FYI (and perhaps easing minds), the 'crats are quite aware of this discussion, but our policy is: "Community reviews should be closed when it is clear that there is a consensus, or when it becomes clear that a consensus will not be reached.". We don't seem to be quite there yet, and the ongoing discussion is still quite active. Thanks. --SB_Johnny talk 16:11, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
It is a unanimous decision, that is clear consensus. There has been no movement except in discussions to close for 3 days now (last vote was 07:10, 28 January 2011). Additionally, SB Johnny is making an odd claim seeing as how a previous Community Review in defiance of an unanimous motion was to stop the whole thing and start over to allow discussion. Ottava Rima (talk) 16:59, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, Pathoschild. Your analysis is as expected from a steward. The flap at Wikiversity is caused by one seriously disgruntled user, backed up by one or two others with similar resentments, and with the small active admin core of Wikiversity, almost all are either involved or so disgusted as to stay away. However, the process at Wikiversity is not broken, it is merely turgid. I see no reason for steward involvement at this time. There are potential "cross-wiki issues," and if those become significant, steward action that is respectful of the local community could become appropriate. It isn't there yet. --Abd 13:56, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
"here is majority but no consensus about desysoping Abd" It is unanimous, not a majority. If there was even one oppose you might be able to make some tiny but outrageous claim to a lack of consensus. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:08, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Reopening this request: please remove Abd's sysop tool access per closure of discussion. I can only offer my own apologies for the silliness, but I do sincerely apologize to those who have been put in an awkward spot or two in relation to this. --SB_Johnny talk 23:55, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Temporary permissions (expired and rejected requests only)

Hi, I would like to ask for permanent administrator/sysop status for the Aramaic Wikipedia. Currently there is only one active admin. Having admin rights would make it easier to revert vandalism and would also make work much faster than it is now. I would also not be dependent of only one active admin. Thanks in advance. Michaelovic 09:57, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello. First of all please make a request in a more public page, like the talk page of the main page or in the community discussion page (if any); then wait at least a week to gauge (if any) community consensus. In base of the results of that voting we will consider this request. Thanks, --dferg ☎ talk 18:55, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Dear,
Here you can find the link where the voting took place. Since the 15th of September, everybody had the chance to vote. Because there is only one active member besides me, there is only one vote (Pro ofcourse), and personally I don't think there will be more votes. I hope you will approve my request now. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Greetins, Michaelovic 15:05, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
So far, there seems to be a minimum standard for permanent adminship which has not been met by your election. Please keep your voting open until the end of the month. It is likely that you should consider extending your temporary access instead. Kylu 02:43, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Dear Kylu, thank you for commenting. May I point out that the minimum standards for permanent Admins are just suggestions. These suggestions are not manditory since the discussion of the numbers are too high is still going on and the spirit of it is only approved by one person. I personally really have my doubts that a still going on discussion about suggestions could be manditory since no community has voted this to be a permanent manditory guideline. Therefore these minimum standards are not applicable on my case at the moment. With that in our mind, I hope you will approve my request now because I have met on all other conditions. Thank you in advance. Michaelovic 12:12, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Comment Abstain I keep requesting that people comment there, and yet they do not. As it is, stewards have not considered one or two votes enough to establish a firm local community consensus on the subject of granting permanent sysop rights. Since we disagree on the matter, I'll abstain from marking this as "not done" so it's not counted as an action: I'm only commenting as a concerned Meta user. Kylu 12:03, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Is it possible to grant me temporary adminship for a year then? This would be a compromis I think.. Would you agree with that? Thanks in advance. Michaelovic 18:28, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Currently I have 2 votes. Perhaps waiting till the end of the month is a good idea, hoping there will be more votes. Let's keep this request abstained for one more week. Thank you. Michaelovic 20:29, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
We generally grant three month terms to people who are starting out as a temporary sysop, six months for those who have done the job for a while and have gained the trust of both the local community and stewards, but merely can't attain the requisite number of votes. Generally those people also have significant experience as administrators on Wikimedia Foundation projects already. Year-long temporary adminships are fairly rare, and nearly never granted to new temporary administrators. Either way, I've already abstained from deciding on your case. Best of luck. Kylu 23:53, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

I've just added the link to the public discussion (with two votes, which is pretty much the entire active community). Aramaic is considered an endangered language and, consequently, doesn't have a lot of speakers (therefore, there aren't many Aramaic Wikipedia users). The two votes that Michaelovic does have come from well established users (both are administrators with 2000+ edits). When you look at it that way, Michaelovic has support from the majority (if not all) of the active and established users. --334a 16:17, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

I have to agree with Kylu. We never promote somebody to permanent sysop status with only 2 support votes (generally with +5), and the RfC is going that way. So Done, expires: 01/01/2011 please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably to commons:, please come back a few days before the status expires to prolong it or hold a local voting if the community grows, thanks --dferg ☎ talk 07:51, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Miscellaneous requests

User:M7

Prior to SUL deployment, an impostor tried to register my own username on several wikies. At present, as seen on toolserver, my account is still blocked on

I ask for this blocks to be removed, since they are no longer necessary, as my global account has been unified and local wikies attached long time ago. Thank you, M/ 00:04, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Nemo_bis@metawiki

I need temporary import rights to easily import outreach:Category:Best practices documentation (a day will be enough). Those pages were started on Meta and copied there without history (and leaving duplicates here) and are now more actively edited on Meta; I'll merge histories, check page status, add soft redirects on outreachwiki and fix links. I've notified the best practises team mailing list. Nemo 20:20, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Granted please let us know when you are done Mardetanha talk 20:23, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
