Global bot status requests

Global bot status for Neriah bot

Not ending before 18 June 2021 13:42 UTC

I want a global bot flag for my bot to fix signatures of users who changed their name and asked me to, and also to perform activities that would interfere with wiki monitoring. Mostly I want the permission for small wikis in Hebrew, which do not have bureaucrats. In addition, I can make any request that a user asks of me on my talk page. Neriahtalk13:42, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

  • Global bot is quite a powerful permission. Usually it's expected that the bots have the bot flag in multiple wikis (like 5+) and to have some more edits globaly (like 100.000+ or so). So it would be nice if you could go a little bit more in details and give some more specific examples.

and also to perform activities that would interfere with wiki monitoring

This sounds to me more like a Free pass for bot operation without discussions.

Mostly I want the permission for small wikis in Hebrew, which do not have bureaucrats.

Then in my opinion would probably be better to just request bot flags for the remaining hebrew wikis. @stewards could someone do the required massmessage? Regards --Zabe (talk) 14:12, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Mass message Done. —Thanks for the fish! talkcontribs 14:46, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose overly broad request, bot has active blocks on a project that would have been in this scope. — xaosflux Talk 14:50, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
@Xaosflux, This is a block I blocked, because of a problem with my bot. Neriahtalk14:54, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Your lost control of your bot and had to resort to a siteblock? That doesn't sound good to me. — xaosflux Talk 15:08, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Comment Comment I don't understand why old signatures needs to be updated? To make a link between new and old account we set redirects. So it looks like bot is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:58, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose as being overly broad ("[the bot would] perform activities that would interfere with wiki monitoring") and as I don't see the bot as being well-established enough to warrant a global bot flag. I'd suggest simply requesting the bot flag on the remaining hebrew wikis, which stewards can grant should their be no local bureaucrats. — csc-1 15:02, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • It's probably better to just request several bot flags from the stewards. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 15:16, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose No relevant information is available about the owner of the bot in English. --გიო ოქრო 16:49, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose to fix signatures of users who changed their name and asked me to I could see this being controversial. --Rschen7754 18:16, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose changing sigs after the fact. Those sigs presumably already point via redirect to the current user names, so there's no real need. And changing the sigs in discussions where people refer to "Neriah's good explanation" or "support per ProcrastinatingReader" when those sigs have disappeared would lead to increased confusion for those reading somewhat older or archived discussion pages (and if people aren't reading the discussion pages, we needn't worry about the sigs). No, there is nothing to "fix" here. I don't know about Hebrew or other wikis, but such activity on enwiki would (IMO) probably lead to a quick block. JohnFromPinckney (talk) 19:13, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose - We at gu.wiki do not need such a global bot to solve a problem that we do not have. I realized that I was not logged in. Hence posting again for my sign to appear properly.--Aniket (talk) 03:01, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
  • I don't see a problem with the first half of the request, but what does "perform activities that would interfere with wiki monitoring" mean? Leaderboard (talk) 05:52, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
  • I saw the reactions, and I gave up on the idea. Neriahtalk18:53, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Bot status requests

MGA73bot@kmwiki

Km.wiki have no active admins or bureaucrats and not really an active community. But they have more than 850 files with no license and that is a violation of the wmf:Resolution:Licensing_policy. So I would like to put the files (see km:អ្នកប្រើប្រាស់:MGA73/Sandbox) in a category and ask the uploaders to add a license (if they are active). Sadly that is probably never going to happen so the next step will be to nominate them for deletion so global admins can delete them.

I have NOT asked locally because there is no active community and it is obvious that the active users do not work on cleaning up files.

I actually think it would be good to edit without a bot flag so the users could see that something is going on now but 850 edits is a bit much. --MGA73 (talk) 15:37, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

@MGA73 We cannot grant a bot flag without a local request.
In this case, I would recommend to edit without the bot flag, as a bot flag makes it impossible for users to discover the changes made in their watchlists, etc. Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:38, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec I'm okay with that. The idea is that users will notice :-) Thank you! --MGA73 (talk) 17:09, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

@Harej Ehm.... The signatures sound to be from 2013 (about eight years old), and the page with the said consensus has only two revisions, and one of them (from 2020) adds the proposal as well as all the votes? Could you clarify how that happened, please? Martin Urbanec (talk) 21:06, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec This is the original post on the original page: [1]. I am not sure where you are getting 2013 from since the request seems to be from 2018. harej (talk) 21:15, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

I copy-pasted few signatures to translate.google.com, and it always said something like "12:31, 4 April 2013 (IST) ". Might be a bug on google translate's side or something - apologies if that's the case. But even if 2018, that's still three years old, and may not represent community's desires anymore. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 22:17, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
I doubt that anything has changed since 2018. Ruslik (talk) 07:43, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
Since this has apparently become contentious, I will wait until I am totally cleared to run the bot. I often observe on smaller wikis that things tend to not progress as quickly as they do on larger wikis, so even if consensus was arrived on something in 2018, it doesn't necessarily mean the consensus has "expired." I would argue the community has had to wait years to get their consensus implemented and there's no reason to delay further. harej (talk) 16:26, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

SM7Bot@hiwikibooks

Request was made earlier this month and no objection has been made. Two users including local admin have supported the proposal. --SM7--talk-- 04:30, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
