Nature-Barnstar

[edit]

For William I would like to ask that someone design a "nature-barnstar" - an honour designed specifically for people whose work in Wikipedia gets mentioned in a major academic publication (a pun on Nature would be good too). Any takers? (I lack the creative skills.) Guettarda 16:16, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

What kind of nature star? Something like this, or what did you have in mind? KillerChihuahua 15:27, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
I like it. Great pun. Guettarda 06:34, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
So is this our next one? We have a barnstar, usable for others, we have no concept yet. Come to think of it, I've come up with the initial concept for the last three, yes? Isn't it someone else's turn? :P
Ok, nature... Natural Wonder Cheesy Advert! All-Natural, The Only Real Miracle is from Nature!
Or perhaps a kooky mother-earth spiritual thing?
Hrm, I seem to be in a very cheesy mood today, perhaps I should think on this one a bit (or maybe someone will come up with a good idea meanwhile.)
Nothing wrong with being the muse of the group. :"D I was thinking Genesis theme, the Sun (barnstar) and birds above, plants on the sides and the nature barnstar opposite corner of the sun... some sort of ground and perhaps an animal that can be intergrated nicely. Actually that the same as your mother earth thing, meh which ever, I'll do a draft. - RoyBoy 00:34, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Draft one

[edit]

V is for vine along the sides. I think this should have at least 3 barnstars, whether they are prominently put along the bottom or hidden a bit is something to play with. - RoyBoy 01:45, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Looks promising, but since he's a climate scientist, and his thing is climate change, something that speaks to the globe, glaciers, etc. might be appropriate. Guettarda 17:15, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, and likely easier to put together. - RoyBoy 19:33, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Vines? We have vines? Can we ditch the vines? It looks a wee tad cluttered IMHO. KillerChihuahua 13:36, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
Vines are already ditched, but me make official... will keep the side boxes for now in case they are needed later on. - RoyBoy 18:44, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Glaciers? We the children of the Earth acknowledge WMC to have written many words of wisdom, which will be heeded for generations to come. As such these Barnstars are for your continuing efforts for all that is good, fair and accurate in Wikipedia.

So say we all.

Glaciers?
Animal? Ice? Pseudoscience be Gone!  Toward being better than Britannica Mention in Nature    Ice?

Draft two

[edit]

Just an idea. I cannot seem to get the images to align center, no sense spending time on it if no one likes this one. KillerChihuahua 15:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

This design is certainly more steamlined. I like it, assuming we throw in the draft of my copy and sky blue. I'm wondering about an outer border... or if we should leave a border out on this one, since its a sky... it should have no border? - RoyBoy 15:25, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

A softer blue if you insist on blue, and deep green border? KillerChihuahua 10:42, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Light/sky blue. Kept horizontal lines, but removed all other borders. Just throwing it out there, I'm not happy with it. -- Ec5618 12:17, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
No, I'm not happy with it either. Its a little too lavender... what about #99FFFF or #66CCFF for background, with a table border of #336633? KillerChihuahua 00:30, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I really like the color Ec5618, but not for this template. Killa, by table border you mean around it like this? Tweaked 3px borders to 2px for now. - RoyBoy 06:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I mucked with the colours a bit; see history for all the rejected ones. Widened the border to 5, IMHO the green should really show, as its an earth/sky sortof thing. KillerChihuahua 13:47, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
(re-)Added coloured lines, for slimming effect. The text looks awfully small. Perhaps we should consider using a different font. -- Ec5618 23:29, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Looking good, I'm assuming I can put in my description and a timestamp, and with a few tweaks or melding of the two it should be good to go. - RoyBoy 04:04, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Wow. You've done wonders (while I have forgotten about it). Guettarda 23:09, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Yup, I do like Ec5618's idea of a different font... but which to choose? - RoyBoy 16:15, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Trying green, large, italic, serif. What do you ppls think? KillerChihuahua 13:05, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Changed the Hailstone to a frosty leaf image. The hailstone looked too darn much like a nuclear warhead going off to me. Now its prettier, but we have too darn much cold weather. I cannot find a decent image of the sun, or of rain. :( KillerChihuahua 21:30, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
What do you all think of replacing one of the images with Arubasunset.jpg? KillerChihuahua 21:40, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Instead of the ice sheet, you mean? Two frosty images does seem a little redundant. -- Ec5618 15:09, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I was thinking of instead of the frosty leaf. Either way, though - as you say, redundancy is what I'm trying to avoid here. KillerChihuahua 17:32, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Tough call. The leaf is prettier; but the ice shelf is grandeur. Hmmmm... if I wasn't suffering from a fever I'd have an opinion on this matter. I'll just shuffle along now... literally, I'm shuffling! :"D RoyBoy 04:15, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
I was going to replace the ice sheet with this. What you guys think? - RoyBoy 20:03, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
not exactly weather related. Very cool image though. KillerChihuahua 06:23, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps lightning/volcano instead? Placed in template. It is pretty dark, but I still like it. - RoyBoy 17:06, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
It is dark, and I miss the ice shelf, but I like this also. We have so many pretty pictures to choose from, this is hard! KillerChihuahua 18:22, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm - to just add some more to the mess - if you read his blog, he's a bee keeper, and apparently has some affinity to mustelids (but that might just be a pun on weasal). I think the space pic is amazing though. On the other hand, he does work for the Antarctic survey - so what about penguins? ;) I like them all, but I think the ice sheet is better. Also, if you look at his pictures, he seems to have an affinity for rugged landscapes. Guettarda 19:48, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

ok, ice sheet is in, then, it is a must. That probably means the pretty leaf is out. I've replaced the yellow flower with a yellow flower which has BEES. :D KillerChihuahua 21:05, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Penguins: Image:McMurdo-Pinguine.jpeg. KillerChihuahua 21:10, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Me am confused too. The lightning/volcano is good for the theme, but its so dark maybe going with the galaxy pic is better after all. I dunno. - RoyBoy 06:02, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Seems lighter, friendlier. Guettarda 20:07, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
