In January 2008, the Simple English Wikipedia had 5.8 million words across 25,000 articles. [1] This amounted to 232 words per article.
The size of this version came to 57 megabytes, or 57 million (57,000,000) bytes, across this number of words, or 9.827 words per article. Not including wiki code, and considering ASCII specifications, 7 characters/word will be assumed here.
As of 17:06, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 (UTC), Simple English Wikipedia has 253,862 articles, which roughly amounts to 58,895,984 words, or 412,271,888 characters, across the entire project.
For the purpose of comparison, suppose these articles were put into print. A page of this encyclopedia would measure 25 cm in height; a volume would be 4 cm thick and consist of 100 page leaves, with two columns each on both sides, and 50 lines per column. Each line would consist of 42 characters each.
Therefore, one print volume of Simple English Wikipedia would have 840,000 characters, or 120,000 words, or 517.241 articles.
