Eric Walter Elst (30 November 1936 – 2 January 2022) was an astronomer from Belgium.[1] Elst has found nearly 3,500 asteroids, including many notable asteroids. An asteroid, 3936 Elst, was named after him. He was born in Mortsel, Belgium.

Elst died in 2 January 2022, aged 85.[2]
