Evangelista Torricelli (15 October 1608 – 25 October 1647) was an Italian physicist and mathematician. He was a student of Galileo. He is known for his invention of the barometer. He is also known for improving the field of optics and his work on the method of indivisibles.

Torricelli died from typhoid fever in Florence on 25 October 1647 at the age of 39.
