Mount Unzen (雲仙岳, Unzen-dake) is a Japanese volcano near the city of Shimabara in Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū. Unzen is an active volcano.[1]

Unzen has erupted many times.[2]

  • June 3, 1991 (Heisei 3): The volcano erupted violently, killing 43 scientists and journalists.[4]
