Categories like "People from etc" are normally here at svwiki connected to the contemporary areas. "Egbert of Wessex" is therefor not a "person from United Kingdom" since UK wasn't founded until long after he died. I do not know how that principle affects your work here and the changes in France, but it could be something you should be aware of. -- Innocent bystander 22 juli 2016 kl. 12.55 (CEST)
- This is a problem for most wikis that run Personer från-like categories. Most notable normans live outside of the timeframe wherein the Normandies were separated over two regions, so it these cases there's no problem combining the categories. In other cases this may be a problem indeed. I believe that if the regional categories only form containers for the departemental ones they can be moved to the new region, as no individual people have been moved. All the people (the articles) in Kategori:Personer från Normandie where there to begin with, probably because the lived outside of the formentioned timeframe. The people who lived in one of the abolished regions also lived in the departments and are categorised in the according categories. So, it may be a problem for wikis that have (old) regional categories that contain people, not just subcategories, but I think the Swedish wiki gets away with it all right. I will be doing other wikis as well, so I will be taking your point under consideration for them; Not all wikis are so neatly categorised as the svwiki. - "neatly categorised", well, I am not so sure about that. I know this is a big issue, since we had very heated discussions regarding "People from X Municipality, Sweden" for people who lived in the beginning of the 20'th century or earlier. The problem is that the modern municipalities were not founded until the 1970's. It was solved by adding them to Parish-categories instead...
- Well let's say that I have seen some wikis that are a lot messier than this one. I've seen a few that are more organised, true, but it could have been a lot worse around here, trust me...
- A more complex question is that these categories are supposed to be about people "related to" a place, no matter where they were born. But that is only well-implemented in categories about well known Swedes. For people like "John Doe" in "Nowhere City", the birth-place is most likely the only information considered. -- Innocent bystander 22 juli 2016 kl. 13.21 (CEST)
- A lot of wikis don't have People from"-categories and these problems may very well be the core reasoning behind not having them. I cannot speak for all wikis that don't have them -a lot may just be to small to have considered them- but I've seen these kind of arguments given against this class of categories. The svwiki has them, so you have to live with it and try to keep it as organised as can be done with this kind of categories, but I can appreciate the trouble that may be. Hello, regarding your requests for speedy-deletion on Brun (olika betydelser 2) etc., we have decided to keep these redirects to keep the history. I'm not entirely sure myself why this is valuable, but there have been many requests to restore pages such as this on Wikipedia:BOÅ which can be seen in the archives for BOÅ. - Ok, I will stop nominating them, then. My main concern is that these (olika betydelser 2) duplicates should be removed from Wikidata, what the svwiki wants to do with them is up to this community.
