1080p versions of old films

[edit]

Hi, I don't know if you follow that page, so FYI: Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:25, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yann: All submitted with first links, I hope for the best.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 22:28, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what you mean, but there is no point submitting them to V2C, except overloading the system. I already tried that, and they failed. Yann (talk) 10:43, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Well, I tried before you wrote that. Three were sent signal 15 (SIGTERM) and the other three got "Error: NoUsernameError: Failed OAuth authentication for commons:commons: The authorization headers in your request are not valid: Invalid consumer", but should not have.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:56, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said on Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions, these videos are too big to be processed by V2C. Don-vip made some changes recently and restarted the system. So all previous processes have to be restarted. Please see the details on phab:T365154. Yann (talk) 13:07, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann Thanks, but see phab:T369298.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:36, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann I managed to get https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWRrniYAQDc uploaded to File:Anna Boleyn (1920, 1080p) by Ernst Lubitsch.webm for you, please attend to the licensing. Note that it turned out to be 720 pixels high, so a rename may be in order. I am limiting myself to two concurrent V2C uploads or one concurrent step.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:42, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, but I already uploaded a 720p version. Yann (talk) 09:00, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann Sorry, I used the first external link at the file description page File:Anna Boleyn (1920) by Ernst Lubitsch, 720p.webm for that file at Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions. Which has 1080p?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:17, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here. Yann (talk) 12:23, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Thanks. Do you have a non-torrent, non-YouTube source for Storm Over Asia?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 03:05, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IA? Probably the same 2.2 GB. Yann (talk) 07:04, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To do this limiting, I am waiting until a download is complete before initiating another task; perhaps I should wait until pass 1 is complete instead, as pass 2 seems to be taking longer than anything else? I sure wish we had a percentage shown for pass 1 rather than the barber pole.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:10, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Given the recent failures, I am now taking a new approach: removing pass 2 and uploading from the concurrency calculation (that is, uploading after pass 1 is complete on all current tasks)   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:47, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeff, I noticed some of your uploads of silent films have a copyrighted soundtrack, a copyrighted intro and additional end credits. All need to be removed. I do it myself whenever possible but the higher resolution transcode is not available for those. Thanks, — Racconish💬 13:42, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yann: You did the research on these. @Racconish: I would be happy to reupload any of these from Category:Videos transferred by User:Jeff G. and children which you identify without sound, but sadly V2C still refuses to overwrite, so I would theoretically have to add "silent" within the parentheses in the filenames.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:35, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a new sound track was added to most old silent films, which should be removed when uploading. Yann (talk) 19:09, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Racconish and Yann: I'm sorry. I have been trying to upload silent versions, but sadly each time I try I run into either "Sorry, but files larger than 4GB can not be uploaded even with server-side uploading. This task may need manual intervention" or "Exitcode: 153". I hope fixes for those can be implemented, or someone else can come along with a better machine and process each file locally. I encourage overwriting them with silent versions, but sadly V2C won't allow that, either. Except one: V2C finally succeeded in allowing me to upload https://archive.org/details/maciste-in-hell-1925-by-guido-brignone to File:Maciste in Hell (1925, 1080p, silent) by Guido Brignone.webm for you, please attend to the licensing. I tagged File:Maciste in Hell (1925, 1080p) by Guido Brignone.webm G7.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:50, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... and the non-silent version is now gone.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:11, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another Exitcode which needs explanation is 137.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 04:17, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Racconish: I'm sorry. I have been trying to get v2c to upload silent versions of these films without subtitles but with new names since you wrote above, with only one success. Since the G7 window has passed, please delete the infringing ones, nominate them for deletion, or at least list them here.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:09, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Out of scope?

[edit]

Hello Jeff, could you take a look at these uploads? imho this is totally out of scope. cheers. Lotje (talk) 12:32, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lotje: Please see Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Fredkabogoza.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:46, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jeff, I always feel safer when you take a look Lotje (talk) 12:53, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lotje: You're quite welcome!   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:57, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Question if you'll humor me, but what's your issue with me lately? I ask because it seemed like we were cool up until a month or so ago and I can't think of anything major that we've gotten in a disagreement about lately. Yet you really seem to have it in for me the last month for some bizarre reason. For my part I have no issue with you what-so-ever. In fact I was just talking to someone recently about how I wish you'd do an RfA again at some point. Since I think your one of the few people on here that isn't an admin but still has the expertise to be one. So this whole thing is really just disappointing and weird. I'd like to think your smarter then to try and get someone blocked just because they didn't ping in a reply to. So honestly, what's the deal? Adamant1 (talk) 01:20, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty much the same behaviors that got you blocked three times.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:22, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to relitigate the two blocks from Yann a couple of years ago, but there were both extremely spurious and only happened because he wanted to get his way in an editing dispute. One of them was reverted to. Although they existed years before you started the weird axe grindy behavior. So I find it hard to believe they have anything to do with this. I don't think that justifies you reporting me just because I didn't ping you either. So what if I got blocked a few times? Like that justifies grade school level false ANU complaints.
Your a smart guy. You at least have to know things like that just undermined the genuine complaints about how I act. At this point it's just impossible to filter the nonsense from the real issue though because of all the garbage I'm constantly stepping over from people like you. You and the other couple of people who constantly do it are just the boys who cried wolf at this point. I can guarantee that I'd be way more approachable and behave better if people like you just laid off the constant childish nonsense. There's plenty of people on here that I think are absolute jerks who should be blocked. But for all the complaints I get about how I act I'm not out there reporting anyone for super petty crap like them not pinging me. --Adamant1 (talk) 11:35, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
