How did this relatively recent category come to replace the longstanding Category:Reliefs of the Buddha. I didn't see any discussion. To the best of my knowledgeu there is, according to tradition, one Buddha, Sihddhartha Gautama, and these are all (in theory) statues of that individual. "Buddhas" seems entirely wrong to me here. But feel free to "enlighten" me on the matter. Jmabel ! talk 01:31, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are, in fact, many Buddhas. Siddhartha Gautama, also known as Shakyamuni, was the historical founder of Buddhism. You can refer to Category:Buddhas by name for a look at some other Buddhas who are traditionally recognized, though the list is far from exhaustive. @Invokingvajras: Then surely the category should not have been merged, since there is no question what individual is known in English as the Buddha, and all of these statues were of him. - 14:24, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
Much of the content in "~of the Buddha" categories included images of other Buddhas. This is a good opportunity to clarify. As OP indicated, there is still confusion about "who's who" for those who don't really know about Buddhism. - 4:23, 20 Aug 2023 (UTC)
@Invokingvajras: So imaginably a subcat. But it should not have become a redirect, and certainly this should not have been changed without discussion. - Jmabel ! talk 19:42, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
