The church was completed in 2004 by architect Archil Mindiashvili (1951–), there is no freedom of panorama in Georgia, thus permission from him is needed.

(moved from talk page, to let discussions not broken):

  • The building of Sameba Cathedral, Tbilisi is one of dominant architecture work in Tbilisi and according my opinion the no freedom of panorama in Georgia is not reason for all these pages (or the whole category) deletion. I can understand, that if somebody will sell the postcards with this building, there is necessary to ask the building architect for permission, but this is not our case.
The wikipedia is non - profit organization and all the images in this caegory serves as encyclopedic work for wide public use. Lot of them are now part of some articles in different languages and their deletion will cause lot of troubles also for authors of these articles.
So I propose to delete all the deletion requests and try to solve this case by another way, for instance to contact the building author and ask for his opinion or agreement with using our images on Commons. -- Karelj (talk) 13:21, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Karelj: the burden of contacting the architect rests upon the uploaders of the impacted images, in accordance with COM:EVIDENCE. As to the use on Wikipedia articles, then it is encouraged to move some to language editions that apply FOP of their countries (e.g. English Wikipedia uses U.S. FOP that permits images of architecture for free commercial uses, and German Wikipedia that applies German FOP). But not allas Wikipedias are not meant to host numerous unused images (Commons only does that job). Commons does not accept images containing unfree works of art and architecture that are licensed noncommercially, as per COM:Licensing both fair use and noncommercial licensing are not allowed here. If uploaders do not want to ask for architect's permission or move some files in local editions, then all of these must go unless the noncommercial condition in Georgian FOP is removed. • Ask architect?
As the architect is still alive, may somebody from Georgia ask him for permission?--Qasinka (talk) 09:03, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete No COM:FOP Georgia. Permission from the architect has not been provided so the files should be deleted. -M.nelson (talk) 21:12, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    •  Comment It's a real pity to have to delete all of these including at least one featured picture. If anyone knows how to contact the architect, I hope they do. I'm a little shocked that this thread was started all the way back in January. We just got wind of it on Wikivoyage today, and I've already uploaded one file of the Sameba Cathedral locally. I'm glad that file wasn't deleted already. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:49, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete: it's really unfortunate, but there's no reason these images could be freely licensed. If the architect does somehow provide full permission, then undeletion is always an option, as far as I'm aware. Perryprog (talk) 23:22, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted: per nomination and discussion. Could keep one (de minimis) and cropped another (with a wedding). The fact Wikipedia is non commercial is not relevant. The images on Commons can be used anywhere, also for postcards, books, other websites, tc. --Elly (talk) 20:48, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
