[edit]DescriptionDeimos - Mars Express HRSC (47509761851).png |
Mars Express HRSC Super-Resolution Channel image of Deimos, taken on January 7, 2018. The primary HRSC color channel images were used to colorize this image. This is about as large as Mars Express ever sees Deimos. The moon is only 6 km wide and orbits ~23000 km from Mars. Mars Express' operational orbit ranges up to 10,000 km from Mars, meaning the closest possible approach to Deimos is ~13,000 km. Despite the distance from Deimos, this image has roughly 92 m/px resolution of Deimos' surface. This image was taken during Mars Express' 18,744th orbit of Mars. Image Credit: ESA/DLR/FU Berlin/J.
