Summary

[edit]
Description Whether you consider Ayahuasca as a shamanic ritual or simply as the "Amazon Acid Trip", it starts with a nondescript liana known in science as Banisteriopsis caapi, which is sectioned and boiled to release the psychoactive ingredients, collectively known as Harmine. But to kick things off it needs a source of DMT (dimethyltriptamine) and the leaves of Chacruna (Psychotria viridis) shown above is one of the more popular sources. DMT and Harmine sort of join hands to waltz through your blood-brain barrier. Many other plants may be added to the bitter brew, depending on the shaman and the area.
