Henry Cochrane's notes read: "Contentment is said to be better than riches, and here is joy. A young Bolivian peon, or laborer, who, as Mrs. Partington quotes Mr. Micawber, is waiting for something to turn him up. Observe his bangs, his V-cut shirt, and flowing knickerbockers. Those are his summer trousers—the box or case appears to have a written history, and no doubt came from France or Belgium, by way of Panama, to Lima. On the end one sees the last three letters of Callao and that suggests that it came originally from a busy manufactory."
