Description

A Igreja da Misericórdia está situada no coração da cidade e é propriedade da Santa Casa da Misericórdia. Foi fundada em 1641, conforme se lê nas memórias paroquiais de 1758. A primitiva igreja ruiu e foi restaurada por volta da década de 30/40 do século passado. Construída em finais do século XVI, possui características maneiristas e barrocas. A fachada principal apresenta portal de lintel recto, encimado pelas figuras das Virtudes Teogais, Esperança, Caridade e, no topo, a Fé, perfeitamente integradas na composição. Ao centro do frontal triangular, a imagem da Nossa Senhora do Pópulo, Padroeira das Misericórdias. Apresenta um interior de nave única e capela-mor, com altar e estilo nacional em madeira sem revestimento a folha de ouro, com a imagem da Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia no trono.
