Description
English: Young woman, probably a fashion model, posing in a Vionnet-inspired dress in the 1930s. The dress is floor length, with a small train. It has cap sleeves, a high neckline with soft ruffles and ruching at the waist. The fabric for the dress was probably bias cut. 'By using the bias-cutting techniques, designers could produce gowns in silk, satin, chiffon and crepe that would cling around the bosom, waist and hips and flare out from the thighs into and elegant sweep of skirt.' (Information taken from: M. Costantino, Fashions of a decade: The 1930s, 1991). The model's short, wavy hair is pulled back from her face with a ribbon.
