Sture Werner var chefsgeofysiker vid Sveriges geologiska undersökning (SGU) under tidsperioden 1936-1976, hedersdoktor vid Stockholms universitet, fick professors namn av regeringen 1973, uppfann tillsammans med Alfred Holm en "Slingram" för elektromagnetisk prospektering, internationellt uppmärksammad för sin teori "Werner deconvolusion", initiativtagare till flygmätning av fastlandets magnetiska, elektriska och radioaktiva egenskaper. Från Kristinebergsområdet finns den efter honom uppkallade "Sturemalmen", vilken är en höghaltig kopparmalm.
