[edit]DescriptionPhytoplankon bloom in the Celtic Sea (MODIS 2017-06-06).jpg |
English: On June 3, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of a brilliant phytoplankton bloom peeking out from underneath bright white clouds. The bloom was located in the Celtic Sea, off the coast of Wales (northeast), England (southeast) and Ireland (in the west). Increasing sunlight in the spring provides the energy for the floating, microscopic, plant-like organisms to reproduce rapidly and in vast numbers. |
