Description
English: Portrait of Edward Montagu, 1st Lord Sandwich (1663), by Feliciano de Almeida (signed on the lower right corner "Feliçiano fecit"). This painting was in possession of the Montagus until 1997, when it was destroyed in a fire in Bridport, Dorset, after being moved from Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon. The portrait was painted when the English admiral and diplomat visited Lisbon for the wedding of Catherine of Braganza; Lord Sandwich described the portrait in his diary as "an extraordinary like Picture".
Português: Retrato de Edward Montagu, 1.º Lord Sandwich (1663), por Feliciano de Almeida (assinado no canto inferior direito "Feliçiano fecit"). Este quadro esteve na posse da família até 1997, quando foi destruido num incêndio em Bridport, no Dorset, após ter sido deslocado de Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon. O retrato foi pintado quando o almirante e diplomata inglês se deslocou a Lisboa para o casamento de D. Catarina de Bragança; Lord Sandwich refere-se ao retrato no seu diário como "um retrato extremamente parecido".
