Talk:Chalcis

what kind of number is this?

edit
The earliest recorded mention of Chalcis is in the Iliad (2.537)

it's not clear to me what the number is referring to, a year, a line in the text ..? Doceddi (talk) 14:49, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's a good question but it's standard with ancient works. The first is the "book" (i.e., scroll) number; if the second number is small, it's usually a "chapter" or "section" and, if it's big (as here), it's a line number from a poetic work. If there are three numbers, the second is the chapter and the third is the section or line. — LlywelynII 09:20, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
