Additional map needed

MapSomme

The current map is a fine map of the river's basin, but the article needs a map that shows the river's location within France. Unschool 07:08, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Unschool I agree. The infobox would have to be changed, but the map (right) of northern France could be added below the current detailed map...Jokulhlaup (talk) 08:48, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation

Isn't it pronounced Somme as in bomb rather than /sɔːm/ 'sawm' (like fraud)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeelitePowellite (talkcontribs) 14:11, 29 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes. At least in England, it always rhymes with "bomb". The reference is "reliable", but American, where there is "cot/caught merger": arguably the vowel might be lengthened, but I cannot imagine ("demerged") 'au'. LDEL (a UK offshoot of Merriam-Webster originally) gives just /sɔm/. I will be bold, to try to avoid lists of parenthesized pronunciation variations in the first sentence. I checked further, and Merriam-Webster Collegiate 8th ed. gives /sɔm/ first, so I think that will do. (Actually their first key is "säm", as is "cot or cart", second is "sɘm", which would be the same as "some". Imaginatorium (talk) 16:19, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
