Ingame, Cassie is NOT suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. In the game, Cassie, a writer, is dealing with the inability to identify or describe her "true self" amidst the numerous archetypes she's created for herself.

The "personalities" you meet in her level are not separate entities fighting for control, but rather Cassie's various interpretations of herself (i.e., as a writer, a criminal, a psychic, etc), which are at odds in a more literal sense (is she a writer or a criminal? She believes she can't be both). Cassie's level is an exploration of Jungian archetypes. From the Psychonauts Wiki itself, "the loss of purpose following the battle and regrets over what happened have led to aspects of her personality be at war with each other."

Like multiple personality disorder, one could argue "she doesn't know who she is," but she's not repressing multiple selves as much as she is creating caricatures of who she believes she is/has been. 142.0.59.170 (talk) 06:12, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
