Brief Decription of ME!

edit

My name is Patrick Mickey. I am a freshman at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. I started using Wikipedia for a assignment in my english class. Before I came to Georgia Southern I attended Glynn Academy in Brunswick,GA. I was born in Lexington, KY in 1992. When I was four years old my family moved to Lewisburg, WV where my mothers family has lived since the 1700s. We stayed in Lewisburg until I was 13 then we moved to Brunswick, GA. Brunswick was by far my favorite place, its close to the beach, its not to big not to small, I just believe its a great place to live.

My hobbies are football, football, and some more football. One day I hope to be the head football coach at the high school I attended, Glynn Academy. In high school I played four years of football and lettered three of those years. To letter in football at Glynn Academy a player must play at least 25 quarters of a varsity games in a season. My ninth grade year I won the MVP award for the ninth grade team. My sophomore year I was awarded with the best offensive player of the year for our junior varsity squad I also lettered this year. Junior year I won the best offensive receiver award and lettered. Senior year I was voted co-captain by the team and lettered. That year I won most improved weight champ this means that I improved my one rep max in bench press, squat, and power clean more than anyone else. I won the coaches award that year also, this award is voted on by the coaches and is given to the player they think deserves it. As a senior I was selected by the booster club to write a one page essay on how Glynn Academy football has affected my life and my paper was chosen the winner. As a result of winning this contest I was given a $1,000 scholarship. Although my football career may seem like nothing ever went wrong for me in the sport, something did. In the fifth game of my senior season I tore my ACL and MCL in my left knee. The injury occurred when I was tackled after catching a pass. This injury was devastating, but there was one positive. After I was injured I asked the coach if I could still help the team and he allowed me to. I became more of a coach than a player and this is when I realized that I wanted to become a football coach.I also ran track for Glynn Academy. I competed in the 1600 meters run, 800 meters dash, 4x400 meters dash, and the 300 meter hurdles. My best times were 5:05 in the 1600, 2:10 in the 800, and 0:42 in the hurdles.

School Acomplishments

edit

Though sports took up a lot of my time I still managed to do well in school. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA in high school this allowed me to become a HOPE scholar. The HOPE scholarship is a scholarship in Georgia given to students who maintain a 3.0 GPA, it pays for a students whole tuition to college. I also took three advanced placement classes in high school and passed each class with a B. Also even though it doesn't really matter, I maintained straight A's throughout middle school. Another pointless academic fact is that in elementary school I received the Pirate Award. The Pirate Award is given to the boy and girl with the highest GPA and standardized test scores through out seven years of elementary school.

Wiki Contributions

edit

I am fairly new to Wikipedia, but I have made some contributions. I have copyedited these articles The Greenbrier, Creamola Foam, East-European Shepherd, and Manohara. I am also in the process of uploading an article about Bruce Ogilvie, a sport psychologist.

Technology

edit

When it comes to technology I know more than most people do. I have been around technology for most of my life as many people in my generation have been. I mainly know the basics when it comes to technology. Anything very technical such as writing programs or taking computers apart I have no clue what to do. Although I do know how to use most computer programs and I am very efficient on the internet.

Languages

edit

In high school it took two years of spanish. I received A's for both years. Although I did well in the class most of the information has been forgotten. I still am able to have a very rough conversasion with a spanish speaking person, but every day I forget more and more. I can not speak any other foreign language besides Spanish.

What I Think About Wiki

edit

I always thought that Wikipedia was not a valid source for a project. The reason I thought this is because anyone can edit articles. Now I know that Wikipedia is a valid source because the articles go through so much scrutiny and editing. I do not like Wikipedia when I creating an article, but i now have a new-found respect for Wikipedia. It's a great source for research.
