Motorola Content Removal?

Hi, I am responding to the message you left on my talk page.

I do not think I have removed content on any Wikipedia page, ever.

I gave up actually trying to edit Wikipedia a long time ago too.

I merely make anonymous, snarky comments on talk pages now.

Moreover, I have no interest in Motorola or Motorola Solutions.

So, I am not sure what exactly happened here, but I would not be surprised if someone spoofed my IP address for devious reason.

Try talking to the CIA about it.

Cheers, ~John Anderson — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.83.26.180 (talk) 23:37, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

WP:HA randomly throwing out that someone is alt-right talking about one needs to use citations all the while citing none the edits. I have not edited wikipedia in months, randomly putting something on someone's talk page is harassment. You sole purpose is to call me alt-right and to discourage me from editing.Don't touch my user page. Bongey (talk) 02:31, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

About AfD nominations

Hello, BrxBrx! I noticed that you created an AfD for Anthony Labruna, but it was malformed and did not actually get listed in the AfD discussion area. I have recreated it as a courtesy, and it is now in the proper place. You need to realize that creating an AfD is a complicated, multi-step process; it’s not enough to simply create the page. Detailed instructions are spelled out at WP:AFDHOWTO.

This is one process where the Wikipedia gadget Wikipedia:Twinkle can be of enormous help and I recommend it. With Twinkle you just choose “XFD” from the options and it creates the format, allows you to fill in your reason, lists it at the AfD discussions, and notifies the article creator. (It says "XFD" instead of "AFD" because you can also use it for redirects (RFD), categories (CFD), etc.) Give it some thought, and if you have any questions, just ask. If I can’t answer (I'm not very techie), I’ll find someone who can. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:40, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

@MelanieN: Hello! I tried using twinkle to submit the page for deletion initially, and what I saw was that for some reason, the script used an "old"(?) deletion process - that got reverted by another user - that's when I tried doing it manually. Has that been fixed in twinkle since? Thanks, BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 19:20, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Changes done to political spectrum.

My friend, i literally liked the wikipedia page to it, how can it not exist? If you have never heard of it, it's because you refuse to acknowledge it's existence, please revert the changes, or i can do it for you Mateus Ramos Bon (talk) 23:36, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

John Solomon (Political commentator) Comment

Hello. I was looking at your edit to John Solomon (political commentator) and am a little puzzled by the removal of "Conspiracy Theorist". Unless I'm reading this citation (https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-invention-of-the-conspiracy-theory-on-biden-and-ukraine) completely wrong, I think it to be the very definition of the term. AAMOF, the term is in the title of the piece. "No journalist played a bigger part in fuelling the Biden corruption narrative than John Solomon, and documents reportedly show that his columns were part of the Trump team’s strategy." Regards,   Aloha27  talk  04:46, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Aloha27! Thanks for reaching out. I removed that comment based on the second reference (https://www.adweek.com/performance-marketing/john-solomon-joins-the-hill-as-executive-vice-president-digital-video/), where the term did not appear. I noticed that the new yorker did use stronger language, but I personally was a bit uncomfortable about outright labelling the subject a conspiracy theorist, simply because in general, blps should be very conservatively described, and unless an RS actually used the term, I was leaning towards removing it. Nevertheless, the new yorker piece obviously was going right up to the line (and the daily beast one actually did call him a conspiracy theorist), and I wouldn't be opposed to the re-introduction of the term, if you feel that it's unlikely a legal complaint from solomon would succeed. I believe the latest edit by (pinging Llll5032) here is right on the money and well-reasoned. Thoughts? Have a good day.   Aloha27  talk  15:15, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
I think that's a pretty good wording for it. Definitely captures the gist of the references, without necessarily endorsing it in wikivoice. Thanks to Llll5032! BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 19:06, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

why did you get rid of Handsome suidward from Squidward Tentacles wikipedia page it is real thing I I think It needs to be there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Furry fox 300 (talkcontribs) 06:25, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

Furry fox 300, please carefully review wikipedia's copyright policies at wp:copyright. Briefly, It is not acceptable to upload copyrighted media and misrepresent that you own their copyright. Unless you are nickolodeon (for which you may have to prove that to legal), you may not upload these images to commons except under fairly strict fair use criteria - that it is "essential to describe or depict a subject, the description of which is an original work". I hope that was clear, BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 06:27, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

Help with malformed RfC

Hi. You said the RfC I opened was malformed. How do I fix that? What's wrong with it? Thanks in advance for your help! :) Jdphenix (talk) 02:52, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi! I said the RfC was malformed because there already has been an RfC for that topic which didn't seem to be closed at the time. I commented my position in the second RfC anyways for clarity, but AFAIK, if the RfCs are about substantially the same topic, they should be combined. I see now however, the previous one has been archived, so it's a moot point now. BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 03:01, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Oh okay. I thought I did something wrong. There was extensive discussion on a possibly closely related article, and I wanted to make sure the discussion there was considered and that we didn't end up with different consensus on this for different articles. (I have reasonable knowledge of the technical bits of how WP works, but the rules and discussion for a contentious topic is a new one for me.) Thanks for the clarification and good day! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Americans, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hawaiian. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your pending change review on Quin Snyder

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that your recent pending changes review on Quin Snyder resulted in the acceptance of an edit that was factually incorrect. I know the correctness of an edit is not necessarily the reviewer's responsibility, but it is good practice to double-check. Have a nice day! —FORMALDUDE(talk) 20:39, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Windows-11-leaked-build-in-dark-theme-localenwiki.png

Thanks for uploading File:Windows-11-leaked-build-in-dark-theme-localenwiki.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:52, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Windows-11-leaked-build-in-dark-theme-localenwiki.png

Thank you for uploading File:Windows-11-leaked-build-in-dark-theme-localenwiki.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 13:37, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi, @ToBeFree:,

1. Certainly feel free to delete this image. I have complied with the free-use criteria, as you may see from the image's rationale. It was a replacement for the file File:Windows-11-leaked-build-in-dark-theme.png (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), which was inappropriately tagged as copyright-unrestricted by another user - that is impossible as it's a screenshot of proprietary software. 2. Please do not template me - I find it somewhat impersonal. (ignore the templating, I see it came from twinkle when auto-tagging files).

Best, BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 17:52, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi BrxBrx, sorry for the impersonal template. For speedy deletion notifications, my focus is on a quick notification that contains all the relevant information. I understand the desire for a more personal message, but this specific situation is so common, even for experienced users, that requesting a personalized message for each of them is rather impractical.
Regarding the free-use criteria, I think that's not correct: WP:NFCC#4 requires that "non-free content must be a work which has been published or publicly displayed outside Wikipedia by (or with permission from) the copyright holder, or a derivative of such a work created by a Wikipedia editor." As the software is not available yet and this is not an official advertisement image by Microsoft, screenshots of "leaked" software revisions are not compatible with this criterion. Both the Wikimedia Commons file and your upload explicitly claim to be of a "leaked build" in their name, and they have been created (and even uploaded) before Microsoft has officially announced Windows 11 with official screenshots.
Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:03, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi, @ToBeFree: - I see, thank you! BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 18:08, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Sorry...

Hey, sorry we kinda side-tracked your Oppose thread at RFA. I think a few of us had concerns in the same direction as you, and while we ended up on the other side of the S/O fence (...just), your comments provided an opportunity to explore some ideas. So to that extent, thanks. Stlwart111 09:16, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the moral support. I suspect the RfA is going to pass handily, and TBH, I'm not terribly concerned - their personality is clearly level-headed and respectful; contentious blocks are relatively unlikely. I just felt the answers to those questions were concerning, and potentially could give rise to (possibly unlikely) extremely unproductive controversy. I'm glad to see I'm not simply out of touch, regardless of whether we ultimately chose to support or oppose. BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 14:16, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
Absolutely, and I think they will do a fine job. I fell to the support side but your argument (as someone else pointed out, and I agree) was the best of the oppose opinions. I'm concerned about the "fight extremism with extremism" thing, and we should probably expect a higher standard than that essay. Stlwart111 23:57, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Use edit summaries

A gentle reminder to please use edit summaries, you have missed them in a few recent edits, especially where disputed. Also, 46.114.151.183 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) was not edit warring. Please assume good faith, a more appropriate warning would be disruptive editing - remember level 3 and level 4 templates (warning and final warning) are only for bad faith or people ignoring warnings. ✨ Ed talk!22:20, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Ed6767:, that particular user is part of a coordinated group of IP editors that have been disruptively editing that page. They have been warned using level 1 and 2 warnings on several ocassions on the inappropriateness of their edits. I would invite you to inspect the history of that page - some 5 or so IP editors taking up exactly the same talking points and failing to provide references - at some point it needs to stop. BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 22:24, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying - just make sure you put that in the history so it's clear to somebody like me who is just checking the history, as I did originally see the edit and let it slide. Honestly the page just needs semi-protection. For IPs, you might find it useful to use the whois link at the bottom of the contributions page. It can tell you things like country, ISP, etc which helps with some sockpuppet checks - all these IP editors are from various places in Europe (France, Spain, Netherlands) but I don't think they're being coordinated, they just seem new and inexperienced of our policies or the situations which is why it's important in cases like these to be light on the warnings, with a level 1 or level 2 disruptive editing one being what I find most appropriate unless they're specifically one editor back and forth. As always with this its stopping disruption, not discouraging editing, and you should deal with people per editor basis where you can. ✨ Ed talk!22:33, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Pending changes at List of Kendriya Vidyalayas

Hi; the criteria for that list, given the number of such schools, is for them to already have an article (i.e. it should be a blue link). This edit; which you accepter here; should not have been accepted, because, as should be obvious from a look, these articles do not exist. Thanks for being more thorough next time, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 02:04, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @RandomCanadian:, thanks for the note. I don't see where that policy is stated - WP:LIST has quite a few pages, but nowhere does it say that lists shall not contain redlinks? Was this an RfC decision that I may have missed out on? The closest thing I could see is lists devoted to a large number of redlinked (unwritten) articles, for the purpose of keeping track of which articles still need to be written but the edit in question inserted only 4 such links? Thanks, BrxBrx(talk)(please reply with {{SUBST:re|BrxBrx}}) 02:21, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
It is the de facto consensus at that page; and it is in line with WP:LIST: WP:CSC specifies what the usual kind of criteria are, and given there are more than a thousand such schools, which can all likely be proven to exist, the only criterion which makes sense (if we consider that the purpose of a list can be to provide further information to readers [redlinks = not further information] and navigation [redlinks = nothing to navigate to]; and that a potential use for Wikipedia development purposes would detract from the readers-first approach, as it would contain an excessive amount of redlinks) is the very first one, i.e. "Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own non-redirect article in the English Wikipedia." The IP edits did not provide any sources from which to write a potential article from, so they're not meeting the quite obvious and common-sense exception either: "Red-linked entries are acceptable if the entry is verifiably a member of the listed group and it is reasonable to expect an article could be forthcoming in the near future. Red-linked entries should be accompanied by citations sufficient to show that the entry is sufficiently notable for an article to be written on it".
