About categorising

edit

Hi. I am an editor form the Macedonian Language Wikipedia and I am translating the List of cities in Germany form the English Language Wikipedia at the moment. It is a hard enough job already, but my main porblem is that I cannot categorise all of them separately as it will take me ages. A user informed me that you have a bot that could automatically categorise them. Part of them are in cyrillic and part still in english or german, but I can always rename them afterwars. Well, that's certainly a worthy effort. Unfortunately, my bot was only good for automatically categorizing municipalities in the United States. This is because most of them were actually originally created by a bot, which used exactly the same language (in a small number of variations, corresponding to the type of municipality) in the intro of each article. However, if you are able to create, by whatever means, a list that shows which categories each article should be added to, I could feed that to Pearle. That would be in the format:
ADD_TO_CAT Article_name Category:Category_name

...with one line per category/article pair. That might be slightly faster than adding all the categories by hand. -- Beland 18:10, 2 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for edit summary

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Response and thanks re: Macedonian letters

edit

Thanks for your note on my user page. It sounds like the sidebar used on pages describing individual letters (e.g. Gje) is ordered incorrectly: it shows Gje after Ge-with-upturn, and Kje after Ka. I don't know how to edit that kind of sidebar/include text (I'm gradually learning Wikipedia editing, but it's tough to fit that in on top of a full-time job, classes, and involvement with a political campaign). If you'd be willing to look into that, and make it consistent with the main Cyrillic alphabet page, that'd be great. I'm also leaving a note in the talk page for that template. Thanks for your help! Ohrid in albanian

edit

I was looking at another user talk User_talk:REX, and found the question you had posed to him about how Ohrid is called in Albanian. I saw he hadn't answered you, so I thought I'd drop a line. I just checked the Ohrid page (in English) and I can confirm you that the correct albanian spelling is listed there. "Ohër" is the indefinite form of the name of the city, while "Ohri" is the definite form. I don't know if in the Macedonian language the change of form in a name is noticeable. In english, for example, the name doesn't change, only the article does (compare "a book"/"the book"). In Albanian (I'm always talking about the official language) "Ohrit" would correspond to one of the cases of the noun "Ohër", the dative case.

Name forms
indefinite Ohër
definite Ohri
Name cases
emërore nominative Ohri
gjinore genitive i,e Ohrit
dhanore dative Ohrit
kushtore conditional Ohrin
rrjedhore (don't know) prej Ohrit

I don't know why your dictionary would report "Ohrit" as the translation, since the correct way in Albanian is to call cities using their indefinite form. I can only speculate that the dictionary you are using is written by Macedonian Albanians (seems to me highly probable being native of both languages) and they are not referring to Albanian official language, but to "their version" of Albanian (if you would let me call it this way). I hope you would agree that the same language has it's different shades and forms from a city to another, and in this case moreso as we are talking of people speaking the same language, but on opposite sides of a border, and not in very close contact for a long period of time. For example, when I hear songs of "Elita 5", a group from Tetova, I am amused by the forms of the words they use, I mean in a positive way. I can understand everything they are saying (as opposed to Kosovo Albanians, whom I can understand with much more difficulty), but they say it differently from the way I would have said it, and this makes it special and at times adds another level of beauty to the song... I think I made this a little too long, anyways I hope you are satisfied with the answer. Feel free to ask me about anything, although I can't guarantee you a prompt answer as I don't log in to Wikipedia very often... Regards, jonosphere 00:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

An image you uploaded, Image:Russemp.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. List of New Zealand lakes

edit

Hi. Thought you might like to know that I've totally re-written the List of New Zealand lakes and I've removed the language tag in the process (hope that was the right thing to do). I felt that it was better to remove the tag since the two pages are now so radically different. The list is now (I hope) exhaustive, which unfortunately poses rather a large challenge for anyone trying to translate it. Malathos 23:56, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Trpceski.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Trpceski.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Macedonian Alphabet Help

edit

Hi Bojan :) I noticed that you're a Macedonian speaker and contributor on Wikipedia, and was wondering if you could help me out.

I have tried to redo the Macedonian alphabet entry, but before I post it I want to make sure it's not wrong! I have tried to keep it very neutral and stick to the alphabet (and not get into the whole Macedonian v Bulgarian debate), but if you have any other information that would be great. I am not Macedonian/Bulgarian/Serbian, so any errors are made in good faith and/or ignorance!!

I have asked 3 other people to review it, including Veni Markovski. Veni has already started editing the article, and you can see his edits on the page.

I'd be interested to get your comments about the new article, I have the draft at User:AWN2/sandbox.

Cheers, AWN AWN2 12:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

PS Hi Bojan, just as a post-script to my post above, you may also want to take a look at some of the stuff that Veni has already deleted from my article. Cheers, AWN AWN2 03:40, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:NrthMway from Forrest Hill.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

You are now a Reviewer

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:14, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding interwiki links to taxonomy templates. I know these edits are made in good faith, but they appear to be causing problems. There is already discussion at Template talk:Automatic taxobox, so hopefully this problem will be fixed soon. Until then, I will have to undo your edits, I'm afraid. --Stemonitis (talk)

Bjankuloski, we've solved the problem. You may resume adding the interwiki links. Just make sure there are no characters between the closing braces and the noinclude tags.

CORRECT:

{{Don't edit this line {{{machine code|}}}|{{{1}}}
|rank=superfamilia
|link=Theraphosoidea
|parent=Mygalomorphae
|extinct=
}}<noinclude>
[[mk:Шаблон:Taxonomy/Тарантуловидни]]
</noinclude>

INCORRECT:

{{Don't edit this line {{{machine code|}}}|{{{1}}}
|rank=superfamilia
|link=Theraphosoidea
|parent=Mygalomorphae
|extinct=
}}
<noinclude>
[[mk:Шаблон:Taxonomy/Тарантуловидни]]
</noinclude>

Adhering to this format should keep the system from breaking not only at the English Wikipedia but also wherever else the same code is used.

Thanks for your help; I think these interwiki links will be very useful! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 20:03, 11 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Latvian alphabet, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lj (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey Bjankuloski06en

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:42, 28 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Macedonian help needed

edit

Hello Bjankuloski06en, I'm contacting you because we need some Macedonian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on mk.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Macedonian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for your time, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 18:18, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
