Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Terrorism

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Terrorism. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Terrorism|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Terrorism. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Asasey Hotel attack (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Fails WP:NEVENT no lasting coverage. Cannot find any coverage of the event after July except for trivial one line mentions in articles discussing other attacks. Closest thing I could find was this: https://www.kormeeraha.com/2021/03/12/canadian-school-renamed-after-hodan-nalayeh/ but it is about a victim more than the attack.

Unfortunately hotel attacks are a common incident in Somalia and just aren't very notable. Could be merged into Hodan Nalayeh, al-Shabaab, or the Somali civil war Traumnovelle (talk) 04:17, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to 2019 timeline of the Somali Civil War. Or redirect, it's already mentioned there. PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:18, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Preparations for the 2003 invasion of Iraq (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

WP:POVFORK of 2003 invasion of Iraq, where this content is already covered (and in a less POV way). Redirect to 2003_invasion_of_Iraq#Preparations_for_war. Longhornsg (talk) 07:43, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. I agree with the above suggestion. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:48, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

One of many individual articles created 20 years ago in the wake of the Iraq War that would not meet WP:GNG today. Articles cover WP:ROUTINE and non-notable military operations, of which there were tens (if not hundreds) of thousands during the war. None of these are significant like Operation Red Dawn is. Per WP:PAGEDECIDE, any coverage around these operations is in the context of the war and don't warrant a standalone page. Merge selectively into List of coalition military operations of the Iraq War, which provides better context, then redirect. Longhornsg (talk) 07:32, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge per above. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:48, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to Timeline_of_the_Syrian_civil_war_(2020)#December, where this event is already included and covered better contextually. Unfortunately WP:ROUTINE military operation as part of the Syrian Civil War that is not WP:LASTING. Longhornsg (talk) 03:28, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect per nom. PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:11, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Redirect to Qalamoun offensive (May–June 2015), where it makes more sense and already covered in more context. This incident fails WP:LASTING on its own. One of thousands of routine military operations during the Syrian Civil War. Longhornsg (talk) 02:39, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect per nom. PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:40, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable report. One of thousands of reports issued by the Department of Homeland Security that don't generate significant secondary coverage in WP:RS, beyond one of two WP:PASSING mentions at the time. No WP:LASTING importance. Created 15 years ago, with no significant additions since then, pointing to its non-notability. Redirect to Department of Homeland Security. Longhornsg (talk) 21:37, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. Commentary in several books, here, here, here, from a brief search, likely more. The report apparently received significant backlash. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:42, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per PARAKANYAA. Satisfies GNG. WP:LASTING is part of the notability guideline for events, and therefore does not apply to documents, which are not events. James500 (talk) 09:16, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep if the sources found are added. See WP:HEY. Bearian (talk) 02:05, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sources do not strictly speaking have to be in the page, as long as they exist, for the page to be kept and I don't know why everyone at AfD acts like they do when that is contrary to policy.
I will probably add them anyway but why do people vote based on this factor when WP:NEXIST is part of the notability guideline? PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I added them to the article as I usually do and expanded it a tiny bit (though it could be expanded much more). I feel like it should be more standard for people to add AfD presented sources to articles but I don't like people suggesting deletion on that basis. PARAKANYAA (talk) 00:11, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment this article could also be rescoped to include the second DHS report released around the same time, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence In Radicalization and Recruitment", as a lot of the sources discuss them together and they're linked to on the page. WP:BLP1E. Merge content where appropriate into 2004 Madrid train bombings, then redirect the page. Longhornsg (talk) 06:05, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment judging from the Spanish article, it's likely that if the main article was brought to FA level comprehensiveness a biography should be written on him per size split reasons, given that he is one of the key figures in one of the deadliest terror attacks ever. So, if this is merged, I would not oppose it being split out again at some time. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:34, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, he does have (not counting life sentences), the third longest prison sentence of all time. I feel that is perhaps a claim to notability. From what I'm looking at an article could definitely be written on him - BLP1E is for low level crimes, not ones that kill nearly 200 people. The other two conditions of the policy are the person being a "low profile individual" (he is not) and that the event not be a SIGNIFICANT historical event in which the role of the person is well documented (he is). So he does not fail BLP1E. With more notorious cases there are often the sources to write both, and the reason he is the one with an article is because he seemed to be one of the more prominent figures. Same reason we have an article on Mohamed Atta. So either keep or merge for now. PARAKANYAA (talk) 08:12, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
2004 Madrid train bombings suspects (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Delete or redirect to 2004 Madrid train bombings. Besides the WP:BLP considerations, absolutely no need for a separate page for this content per WP:PAGEDECIDE. Longhornsg (talk) 06:04, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to the main article. Not actually as many BLP issues as I thought from the title, just a list of those convicted + one high profile very studied false arrest. The main article actually does not have a list of the men convicted of directly perpetrating the attack. The other sections are perhaps unnecessary but I feel a list of the main perpetrators would improve the main article. It appears unsourced but it is sourced to the Guardian article. WP:PROMO and fails WP:GNG. KARNAC was mentioned in one promotional article in 2001 ([1], which was mentioned in WP:PASSING in one Radio Free Europe article 4 years ago, with no update as to whether this software was actually created. Longhornsg (talk) 05:54, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak keep. There is sigcov in a 2009 book for two pages but it is discussed seemingly as a kind of hypothetical-ish thing. Discussed in several books from the 2010s as well, i less lengthy pieces. I would argue it is at least somewhat notable as a proposal - there is a decent amount of newspaper criticism of just the concept. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:45, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
List of Swedish detainees at Guantanamo Bay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Also nominating the following articles for the same reason:

List of Mauritanian detainees at Guantanamo Bay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Belgian detainees at Guantanamo Bay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of Danish detainees at Guantanamo Bay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of Afghan detainees at Guantanamo Bay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Fails WP:NLIST. One of 20+ extraneous articles created by now-WP:CBANed user Geo Swan, unnecessarily breaking out the List of Guantanamo Bay detainees into country-by-country counts. The large list includes detainees' nationalities. If separating by nationality is necessary, the chart on that page can be reformatted to enable such an examination. What this has led to is pages of various encyclopedic quality and accuracy, when maintaining one article, out of date in its own right, is more than enough. Longhornsg (talk) 04:10, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should we be deleting all of the nation lists on the Template:Guantanamo Bay Detainees? If not, why these particular ones? (I'm likely supporting deletion, just trying to understand the situation.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 07:02, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would say that any list with only one entry should be a redirect to an article on the individual. AlexandraAVX (talk) 07:15, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes the rest should be added to AfD. Longhornsg (talk) 07:59, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Procedural keep, the nominated articles are very different from each other (Danish and Swedish has one entry each, Afghan states there have been over 200). AlexandraAVX (talk) 07:17, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete, somewhat for the OP's concerns, somewhat for WP:BLPCRIME issues. I realize it's a broad interpretation, but these are lists of people who have been imprisoned by a government for doing something the government deems wrong, and generally have not faced a trial and conviction. Looking at the lists, there are a lot of non-linked names and red-linked names, and many of those that are blue-linked, their page is just about the fact that they were so imprisoned, so these qualify as otherwise-not-notable folks. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 13:56, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect all Duplicates main page, where I've combined the letter tables so the sorting works. No, these pages are not different from each other, they are all redundant to the main article and none are needed separately. Reywas92Talk 17:15, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Redirect all to one list. Guantanamo being Guantanamo I would argue that a list of all inmates is potentially encyclopedic but I don't see why we would need it to split it into multiple articles. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:36, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Majid Mahmud Abdu Ahmad (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Redirect to List of Guantanamo Bay detainees. There were almost 800 detainees at Guantanamo, not all of them notable, especially by Wikipedia standards. Being detained at a famous prison does not confer notability, otherwise everyone incarcerated at ADX Florence should have an article as well. In the almost two decades since many of the standalone pages for detainees were created, many of them have properly been redirected to the list articles. Ahmad is another such non-notable detainee. Longhornsg (talk) 04:01, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Delete or redirect to Purdue University. Not much on this page to salvage for a merge. Fails WP:NORG and coverage is largely WP:ROUTINE. Longhornsg (talk) 00:51, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to Purdue University. Found a lot of mentions but no sigcov. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:46, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
2004 conference on US privatization of national security (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Redirect to Private intelligence agency. Fails WP:NEVENT: the conference was a routine academic conference with no WP:LASTING effect, and coverage lacks WP:DEPTH. Better covered in the context of the privatization of intelligence and national security, hence the redirect target. Longhornsg (talk) 00:47, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Guardian (database) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Redirect to Federal Bureau of Investigation, where the information is already covered. Database, one of likely hundreds that the FBI uses, is not notable on its own and is better covered on the agency's page. Longhornsg (talk) 00:43, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect per nom. Bluethricecreamman (talk) 01:26, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not all the information related to the Guardian has been included in the FBI article. I suggest creating a new section specifically the Guardian inside that article or adding this information to the existing eGuardian section, before removing this article.
This is one of my first contributions, please let me know if and how I messed up. VicenteGarzaReyna (talk) 21:35, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
