This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Terrorism. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Terrorism|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

Asasey Hotel attack

Fails WP:NEVENT no lasting coverage. Cannot find any coverage of the event after July except for trivial one line mentions in articles discussing other attacks. Closest thing I could find was this: https://www.kormeeraha.com/2021/03/12/canadian-school-renamed-after-hodan-nalayeh/ but it is about a victim more than the attack.

Unfortunately hotel attacks are a common incident in Somalia and just aren't very notable. Could be merged into Hodan Nalayeh, al-Shabaab, or the Somali civil war Traumnovelle (talk) 04:17, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep and do not merge. Hotel attacks are not a common incident in Somalia just as school shootings are not in the United States, despite what is suggested from news coverage. An attack in which 25+ people are killed is not WP:ROUTINE and there was international news coverage of the attack in global RS including FT, NYT, CNN, AP, BBC, Reuters, etc. More than enough coverage to establish WP:GEOSCOPE, WP:DEPTH, and WP:GNG for WP:NEVENT. Keep. There is indeed a problem but I don't think redirect is a good idea, let alone a solution. This article was created back in 2003 as a very reasonable fork, in my view sensibly. The main article was, as is, far too long. For most of these 21 years there has been no adequate link from the main article to this one and so this spin-off has languished. Material from 2003_invasion_of_Iraq#Preparations_for_war should be moved here leaving behind only a brief summary. This would improve both articles. Thincat (talk) 08:21, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep. Don't think it's a good idea to try to merge or redirect. 2003 invasion of Iraq was put up for Feature Candidacy in 2006, and as mentioned above, was deemed too lengthy and had to be trimmed. This is what was forked off into its own article. — Maile (talk) 23:49, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

One of many individual articles created 20 years ago in the wake of the Iraq War that would not meet WP:GNG today. Articles cover WP:ROUTINE and non-notable military operations, of which there were tens (if not hundreds) of thousands during the war. None of these are significant like Operation Red Dawn is. Per WP:PAGEDECIDE, any coverage around these operations is in the context of the war and don't warrant a standalone page. The sources do not strictly speaking have to be in the page, as long as they exist, for the page to be kept and I don't know why everyone at AfD acts like they do when that is contrary to policy.

I added them to the article as I usually do and expanded it a tiny bit (though it could be expanded much more). I feel like it should be more standard for people to add AfD presented sources to articles but I don't like people suggesting deletion on that basis. Comment this article could also be rescoped to include the second DHS report released around the same time, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence In Radicalization and Recruitment", as a lot of the sources discuss them together and they're linked to on the page. Comment judging from the Spanish article, it's likely that if the main article was brought to FA level comprehensiveness a biography should be written on him per size split reasons, given that he is one of the key figures in one of the deadliest terror attacks ever. So, if this is merged, I would not oppose it being split out again at some time. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:34, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, he does have (not counting life sentences), the third longest prison sentence of all time. I feel that is perhaps a claim to notability. From what I'm looking at an article could definitely be written on him - BLP1E is for low level crimes, not ones that kill nearly 200 people. The other two conditions of the policy are the person being a "low profile individual" (he is not) and that the event not be a SIGNIFICANT historical event in which the role of the person is well documented (he is). So he does not fail BLP1E. With more notorious cases there are often the sources to write both, and the reason he is the one with an article is because he seemed to be one of the more prominent figures. Merge to the main article. Not actually as many BLP issues as I thought from the title, just a list of those convicted + one high profile very studied false arrest. The main article actually does not have a list of the men convicted of directly perpetrating the attack. The other sections are perhaps unnecessary but I feel a list of the main perpetrators would improve the main article. It appears unsourced but it is sourced to the Guardian article. Weak keep. There is sigcov in a 2009 book for two pages but it is discussed seemingly as a kind of hypothetical-ish thing. Discussed in several books from the 2010s as well, i less lengthy pieces. Fails WP:NLIST. One of 20+ extraneous articles created by now-WP:CBANed user Geo Swan, unnecessarily breaking out the List of Guantanamo Bay detainees into country-by-country counts. The large list includes detainees' nationalities. If separating by nationality is necessary, the chart on that page can be reformatted to enable such an examination. What this has led to is pages of various encyclopedic quality and accuracy, when maintaining one article, out of date in its own right, is more than enough. Delete, somewhat for the OP's concerns, somewhat for WP:BLPCRIME issues. I realize it's a broad interpretation, but these are lists of people who have been imprisoned by a government for doing something the government deems wrong, and generally have not faced a trial and conviction. Looking at the lists, there are a lot of non-linked names and red-linked names, and many of those that are blue-linked, their page is just about the fact that they were so imprisoned, so these qualify as otherwise-not-notable folks. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 13:56, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete List of Swedish detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Belgian detainees at Guantanamo Bay, List of Danish detainees at Guantanamo Bay, and List of Mauritanian detainees at Guantanamo Bay here as WP:NLIST violations, having fewer than a handful doesn't qualify you for a whole list, if the subject is notable bring it up there and if they're not List of Guantanamo Bay detainees is that way. Break out List of Afghan detainees at Guantanamo Bay into its own AfD, with over 200 detainees that's a whole separate issue worth examining and per AlexandraAVX should be discussed separately. Majid Mahmud Abdu Ahmad

Redirect to List of Guantanamo Bay detainees. There were almost 800 detainees at Guantanamo, not all of them notable, especially by Wikipedia standards. Being detained at a famous prison does not confer notability, otherwise everyone incarcerated at ADX Florence should have an article as well. In the almost two decades since many of the standalone pages for detainees were created, many of them have properly been redirected to the list articles. Ahmad is another such non-notable detainee. A one-off “conference”that advocates for the United States to devolve into a semi-feudal, quasi-governmental entity like the Palestinian Authority or the East India Company is fringe, and needs here the equivalent support in terms of significant coverage that we require for the Bermuda Triangle.
