DescriptionHistoria del Consulado y del Imperio, 1879 "Célebre entrevista de M. de Metternich con Napoleón - último reto del emperador". (4268283413).jpg
English: The famous meeting between French Emperor Napoleon I and Austrian diplomat Marquess Klemens von Metternich in the Marcolini Palace in Dresden on 26 June 1813. On behalf of Britain, Russia and Prussia (and Austria), Metternich demanded that Napoleon give up most of his conquests in Europe in order to have peace; otherwise, the War of the Sixth Coalition would continue and Austria would join this anti-French Coalition. Napoleon, who had recently defeated the Russians and Prussians in the Battles of Lützen and Bautzen (though at a considerable cost to his own army as well, which also still hadn't recovered from the disastrous Russian campaign of 1812), was outraged by this proposal, reportedly kicking around his hat as he angrily responded to Metternich.
