Just like today, many Victorian brides emulated wedding dresses worn by members of the royal family. In 1840 Queen Victoria had chosen cream satin and Honiton Lace for her wedding dress, providing an important boost to the Devon lacemaking industry. This dress was made in New Bond Street for an unknown bride. It has been altered and would originally have been worn with a wide sash.
