The 101st Grey Cup will be played to decide the champion for the 2013 CFL season. It will be played on November 24, 2013 at the open-air Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field in Regina, Saskatchewan, between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders.[1] The game will take place on artificial turf and Mosaic Stadium will have added temporary seating to bring the total seating capacity to about 50,000.
Kick-off time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. local time (CST) (6:30 p.m. Eastern, 3:30 p.m. Pacific), while the pre-game show begins at noon CST (1 p.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Pacific).
This is the third consecutive year that the Grey Cup involves the team of the host city (BC Lions (Vancouver) in the 99th Grey Cup; Toronto Argonauts in the 100th).
Host city
On September 29, 2011, news agencies reported that the game would be awarded to Regina, Saskatchewan.[2][3] On October 13, 2011, it was officially announced by the Canadian Football League that the city of Regina would host the game.[1] It will be the third time that Regina will host the event, building on the success of the 1995 and 2003 games.
It was announced on February 24, 2012 that Mosaic Stadium would be undergoing a series of renovations and upgrades to increase capacity to host the Grey Cup.[4][5] The Saskatchewan Roughriders will spend $14 million to increase seating capacity to approximately 50,000 by adding temporary seats in the end zones. Corporate boxes, concessions and washroom facilities will also be added to accommodate the increased number of fans at the stadium. A new 60-foot wide digital LED screen and scoreboard will be located in the northeast end zone while another new 55-foot wide digital LED screen and scoreboard will be attached to the west grandstand.[6]
The Grey Cup Committee announced the details of the 101st Grey Cup on November 29, 2012.
Musical acts
The Saskatoon-based group The Sheepdogs will perform during the opening ceremonies, and Canadian performer Serena Ryder will sing the national anthem. The Canadian band Hedley will perform during the halftime show.[7]
