Damor
The Damor are a Hindu caste found in the state of Gujarat in India. They are also known as Damoria.[1]
Origin
The Damor are a sub-group of the Bhil tribe. They claim themselves to be of Rajput origin, and claim to be descended from Rajput men who married Bhil women. The Damor are found in the districts of Sabarkantha, and Panchmahal.They speak the Gameti dialect of Rajasthani, although many also speak Gujarati.[2]
Present Circumstances
The Damor are an endogamous community and practice clan exogamy. There main clans are the Parmar, Sisodia, Rathore, Chauhan, Solanki, Saradia and Karadiya. Most of these are also well known Rajput clans. The Damor are mainly settled agriculturist, and include both landowners and sharecroppers. They are Hindu, and unlike other Bhil groups are fairly orthodox.[3]
