Agios Georgios (English: Saint George) is a region near the city of Salamina. This little village took this name by the chantry of Saint George, which is in the center of this [[hamlet ]]. The area has many small and beautiful houses, which were built by poor employees who worked in the close city of Pireuas. These employees came to Saint George to admire his natural and wonderful view, to escape from the hardship of the daily job, to get away from the exhaust of the near city Pireuas, and to swim to the crystal, clean and fascinating beaches.

Saint George, just as all the island of the Salamina, is washed by the Saronic Gulf. This village is close to the natural gas plant, located on the isle Revythousa. Many oil ships that carry gas oil, come to the factory in Revythousa for processing.

The residents of village believe with faith in Saint George. The majority of senior villagers are said to have heard the pace and the whinny of Saint's horse.[citation needed]

The testimonies of the villagers testify the occurrence of these clues . Ioanna Kyriakouli one of the first residents who settled in the area believe that she have heard the walking of Saint's horse.

The legendary protagonist of the Greek Revolution (1821), Georgios (George) Karaiskakis went to the chantry for prayer and to turn to his namesake Saint before he and his warriors fought against the Ottoman Empire for freedom and independence of Greece.

The tabernacle of Saint George was constructed between 1200 and 1300 A.D.

Saint George, with Faneromeni Monastery and Saint Gregory (in Greek Agios Grygorios), are the oldest ecclesiastic buildings of the island.

Some meters before the church, there is a pine tree in the middle of the road. The legend says that when the Germans conquered the island, during the second world war in 1941, soldiers attempted to cut down the tree, but they couldn't. The dwellers to this day believe that the pine is holy, and protected by the patron of the village.

This district is located on the northwest of the island and is only 3 km from the city of Salamis. Hamlet's current population is approximately 1.500 permanent residents. During the summer season, over 25.000 visitors come to the area for swimming, entertainment and the local traditional food. Near the beach, the visitants can find many inns for meal. Also the guests can go for coffee or refresher to the nigh cafeterias.

The area is full of pine and olive trees. The elder villagers work their crafts. They sell their products on the local supermarkets, and at the open-air market. The other old villagers raise and tend goats and sheep. The youngest habitants are working in the center of Salamis or they operate in near cities, Athens and Pireuas.

This famous touristic resort is adjacent with other renowned districts of the island like: Steno( in English the Narrow ), Xeno (the Foreign) and Psili Ammos (Fane Sand). Italic text
