Attack on Doboj (1994)

The Attack on Doboj in 1994 was the second attempt by the ARBiH to capture Doboj. During 1994, Muslim forces improved their operational capability and combat readiness, particularly in the 2nd and 3rd Corps areas of responsibility. The units were replenished, and the soldiers received better weapons. With this strengthening, the Muslim forces were able to seriously threaten the positions of the 1st Krajina Corps of the VRS, especially in the Doboj and Trebava areas.

The attack

This battle was an attempt by the Tuzla Corps of the ARBiH to break through the defense line of the VRS units by grouping forces at Gavriće and Svjetlić and continue operations towards Doboj. The attack was carried out in the early morning hours of October 22, 1994. The attack started from the direction of Gračanica and Tešnja. During the attack, the enemy tried to cause additional panic and demoralize the defense by announcing over the radio that certain units were already in the city itself and naming the streets where they were allegedly located. The attack was successfully resisted by the Doboj and 4th Light Banja Luka Brigades and scouts of the "Doboj" Operative Group. The action of the tanks of the 2nd Armored Brigade further strengthened the defense. The fighting lasted for a week, but the Muslim forces were unable to break through the VRS defenses. During the 8-10 In November, new attempts were made, which were also rejected. The city of Doboj remained firmly in Serbian hands. This was one of the strongest attacks directed by the ARBiH towards Doboj. The Doboj brigade had five casualties, and second lieutenant Zoran Bošnjak was among them. The total losses of the VRS in 22-23. October were 9 dead and 18 wounded fighters. A memorial was erected in Gornja Kostajnica.
