Bede describes it as 'Heathfield', which literally means a place of unattended land. The first historian to connect 'Heathfield' with 'Hatfield' was William Camden, who perhaps did not know the literal meaning of the place and assumed it meant Hatfield - one of many in the country. There is no other evidence to suggest it took place at Hatfield. undo Tag: Reverted
