Jim Brakefield (c. 1919–2002) was the fifteenth head football coach for the Appalachian State Mountaineers located in the town of Boone in Watauga County, North Carolina from 1971–79.[3] Brakefield also coached the Wofford Terriers located in Spartanburg, South Carolina from 1967–70.
