The slaves were not emancipated on 19 June, 1865 had already been emancipated by the Emancipation Proclamation on 1 January, 1863, two years prior. They were informed of their freedom by the Union Army as it landed in Galveston. Secondly, the other part of the sentence just assumes that all Black Americans are supporters of the the Juneteenth flag by citing two opinion pieces which make no claims about the levels of support the flag has among the public. undo
