Did you even read the article? There is no suggestion that Karenga "appropriated" the use of seven from Jewish culture. It states he simply could not find a 7 candle holder so he supposedly used a Menorah. There were plenty Kinaras in East Africa that held several different candles, he just could not get a hold of one. undo

There are a number of cultures in Africa (East Africa especially) that use candles for ceremonious purposes. Unless someone is able to find a source in which one of the principle founders of the holiday has admitted this (none to my knowledge exists) then this is inaccurate information.
