Klement Slavický

Klement Slavický (1910-1999) was a Czech composer.

Biography

He studied under Karel Boleslav Jirák and Josef Suk. He was inspired by Moravian folk music and the works of Leos Janacek. Above all, the best of his works are the double chorus Lidice, Rapsodicke variace pro orchestr (Rapsodic Variations for an Orchestra), the sonata Pratelstvi (Friendship) for a violin and piano, the dramatic fresco Cesta ke svetlu (The Way Toward the Light), IV. Symfonietta Pax hominibus in universo orbi, which was dedicated by Slavicky to the United Nations for the 40th anniversary of its birth.
