Lana Therese Condor (born Tran Dong Lan; May 11, 1997)[1] is a Vietnamese-American actress. She made her debut as Jubilation Lee / Jubilee in the 2016 superhero film X-Men: Apocalypse, and will star as Koyomi K. in the upcoming science fiction film Alita: Battle Angel (2018).

Early life

Condor was born in Cần Thơ, Vietnam and was adopted at four months old, along with her non-biological brother Arthur.[2][3] Her parents are Mary (née Haubold) and Yahoo! Sports executive editor Robert "Bob" Condor, both of whom are White Americans.[4] Though born Tran Dong Lan, she was baptized Lana Therese Condor in her parents' native Chicago, where she was raised.[2] Her father's journalism career subsequently required the family to move to Seattle, then New York City, before they settled in Santa Monica, California.[5]

Condor studied dance as a child, training with the Joffrey Ballet, the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.[6] After her parents noticed her natural talent for performing, Condor also took acting classes at the New York Film Academy, and later at the Yale Summer Conservatory for Actors.[5] For her freshman year of high school, Condor was educated at the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City, but after moving to Santa Monica, she attended and graduated from the Notre Dame Academy.[7] Condor continued dancing with the Los Angeles Ballet,[7] and also trained at The Groundlings in improvisational theatre.[8] She has been accepted to Loyola Marymount University, but deferred enrollment.[9]

Career

Condor made her acting debut as the mutant Jubilation Lee / Jubilee in Bryan Singer's superhero film X-Men: Apocalypse, released on May 27, 2016.[10] She next appeared in Peter Berg's drama film Patriots Day, depicting the events and aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing.[11] The film premiered at AFI Fest and is scheduled for release on December 21, 2016.

Condor will then co-star in the teen thriller High School Lover, co-directed by and starring James Franco. She has also been cast in the role of Koyomi in Robert Rodriguez's science fiction film Alita: Battle Angel, produced by James Cameron and based on the graphic novel series by Yukito Kishiro, which is set for release on July 20, 2018.[12]
