Larne Borough Council
Template:NI district Larne Borough Council is a Local Council in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. Its headquarters is in the town of Larne and the population of the area is nearly 31,000. Larne is one of the most modern roll on-roll off ferry ports in the United Kingdom with a busy passenger traffic with Scotland.
The Larne Borough Council area consists of 3 electoral areas: Larne Town, Larne Lough and Coast Road. At the last election in 2005 15 members were elected from the following political parties: 5 Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), 4 Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), 2 Independent, 2 Alliance Party and 2 Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). The current Mayor is Councillor Mark Dunn (UUP). The Deputy Mayor is Councillor Greg McKeen (DUP).
The next election is due to take place in the autumn of 2008 when Larne will be included in a much larger Local Government District as part of a rationalisation of Local Government in Northern Ireland.
Together with the neighbouring district of Carrickfergus and part of Newtownabbey, it forms the East Antrim constituency for elections to the Westminster Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly.
