CENTRE OF POLITICS

People of this village have deep interest in politics and in spare time "political gossip" is their favourite hobby.Although there are many political activists in Gohar jagir, for example vetern politician Baba Ghulam Hussain, Master Muhammad Yaqub, Liquat Ghata, Muhammad Kashif Yaqub etc, but two of them namely Mujahid Muhammad Yaqub and Shabbir Hussain are the most popular and renowned figures which are known and recognized at Tehsil Kasur level and also in various surrounding union councils of the area. Both of them have once won the local body elections. In every local body elections the votes of this village does play an important role in selection and rejection of the candidates.

MUJAHID MUHAMMAD YAQUB became the Naib-Nazim OF Union council 17-R Usman Wala in local body elections of 2005 along with Sardar Imran Zafar as the Nazim of this union council. This pair was fully supported and backed by Sardar Asif Ahmed Ali of Pakistan peoples party who is the present Federal Education Minister of Pakistan. During his tenure he iniated and completed several developmental projects, some of whome are unprecedented. He iniated and completed a scheme of water supply worth Rs. 6 Million in Gohar Jageer. Another major project which came into existence with the special effort of Mujahid Muhammad Yaqub is the construction of a Water treatment plant worth approx Rs. 4 million in Gohar Jagir. Usman wala which is the main centre of this area and also several other surrounding union councils are devoid of this blessing of safe drinking water. Its photo shall be published soon. He also had contested for provincial assembly seat in 1997 as an independent candidate, though he remained unsuccessful yet was able to procure more votes than that of some famous candidates of that time.

SHABBIR HUSSAIN became the Nazim of U/C usman wala in 2005 local Govt elections. It was a tough contest and he won that seat by very narrow margin of almost 50 votes. No major developmental project was iniated in the whole of the union council during his tenure. He contested for provincial assembly seat in punjab province in the general elections held in 2008, but remained unsuccessful.
