Inferior alveolar nerve anaesthesia

Infra Aveolar Nerve Block is a Dental Local Anesthetic Technique. This procedure attempts to block the 3rd branch of the Trigeminal nerve (V3) as it enters the mandibular foraemen.

Approach: Surgeon approaches the nerve from the opposite side (ie, if blocking the Left, Approach from the Right) Pierce the buccinaotr mucle between palatoglossal & paltopharangeal fold, lying lateral to medial pterygoid at the mandibular foraemen.

Danger: If needle is positioned too posteriorly, anaestetic may be put into parotid gland (dangerous systemic effects), or paralyze Cranial Nerve VII (7), resulting in Bells Palsy-like symptoms.
