Pakistani-Iraqi relations are the relations between Pakistan and Iraq. Both Iraq and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1947. Iraq was the first Arab country against the creation of Pakistan. Today Pakistan has an embassy in Baghdad while Iraq has an embassy in Islamabad. In 2003, prior to the outbreak of the second Gulf War, the government of Pakistan announced it was opposed to any action against Iraq.[1] Pakistan was under pressure by the public to vote against the war although some had been considering a vote for the war.[2] After the war ended however Pakistan had indicated that it was willing to send troops to Iraq for peacekeeping, if the Iraqi people wanted it.[3]
Both countries are members of the Organization of Islamic Conference and have strong economic and cultural ties with each other. Both countries are also strongly against Israel and support the Palestinian cause. Pakistan has strongly supported Iraq's territorial integrity and does not support Kurdish separatism.
Military relations
Both Nation were part of Cold War alliance called the Central Treaty Organization.
