Michael Boddenberg (born 15 July 1959) is a German politician for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Since 3 April 2020, he has been Minister of Finance of Hesse.

Career

Born in Troisdorf, Boddenberg completed school in 1978. He took the Meisterprüfung [de] (Master exam) as a butcher in 1983. He was a member of the management of Mainfrost from 1984 to 1989. He was managing director of Fleischfeinkost Schäfer from 1995 to 2002. Simultaneously, he directed the private school for butchers and bakers J. A. Heyne in Frankfurt from 1989 to 2009. He was managing director of the Boddenberg, Heyne & Partner GmbH from 1993 to 2009.[1][2]

Political career

Boddenburg joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in 1985.[1] He was member of the Frankfurt Magistrat from 1993 to 1999.[3] In 1999, he was elected to the Landtag, the parliament of Hesse.[3] In 2001, he became Generalsekretär and managing director of the CDU in Hesse in 2001, serving to 2009. He served as speaker of econimic politics for the CDU fraction from 2004 to 2009.[1][3]

Boddenburg was Hessischer Minister für Bundesangelegenheiten und Bevollmächtigter des Landes Hessen beim Bund from 5 February 2009 to 18 January 2014, responsible for the relationship of state and national government. He was then the head of the CDU fraction in the Landtag.[3]

From 3 April 2020, Boddenburg has been Minister of Finance in Hesse, succeeding Thomas Schäfer.[4][5]

Other functions

Boddenberg's other functions hav included presidency in the supervisory board of European butchers (Aufsichtsrats der Zentralgenossenschaft des deutschen europäischen Fleischergewerbes), member of the board of the European People's Party, member of the Rundfunkrat of the broadcaster Hessischer Rundfunk, and member of the supervisory board of the Rheingau Musik Festival.[3]
