The term male bra refers to men who choose to wear brassieres. Bra's are worn by men who have large breasts, from obesity or gynecomastia, also prefer to wear bras in general. Although some bras for men have been developed [1], they differ only superficially from the female counterparts. There is no medical necessity for men to wear bras, and the same considerations for and against apply to both genders. [2]

Another name commonly used for this garment is the "bro" A play on words with its roots in romance languages where the suffix "a" refers to a feminine object and "o" to a male object, or perhaps alluding to the term "bro" used to refer to other males in camaraderie (or in reference to one's brother).

If a male's breasts are large, they may also choose to wear other cloths designed for woman. An example of this might be the tank top, or to a man a muscle shirt. They might wear a tank top because it has built in cups to provide support and reduce jiggling.
