Matthew Friedberger (born October 21st, 1972 in Oak Park, Illinois) is part of the indie rock duo The Fiery Furnaces with his sister Eleanor Friedberger. In the band he contributes the majority of the instrumentation, writes most of the songs and occasionally sings.

Prior to starting The Fiery Furnaces, Matthew Friedberger played in various other bands, including Corndolly, Liquorette, The Mezzanines and The Grand Vizars.

Friedberger is slated to release two solo albums in 2006, Holy Ghost Language School and Winter Women. In his own words, the former will be a "noise" record while the latter will be a "pop" record. His sister Eleanor will appear on neither. Matthew and Eleanor grew up singing with their grandmother Olga Sarantos and family in a Greek Orthodox Church.[1] Details of events in Sarantos' life are depicted on the Rehearsing My Choir album.
